time for grass to grow

Hi everyone! total gardening and landscaping newbie here! I have a question-

DH and I just moved into our house in this past month and in about a month we're having a housewarming party. Here's the thing-

3 weeks before the party we are having 2 huge spruces removed from the front of the yard- they currently sit in an approximately 15-20 feet area that is all dirt (due to the lack of shade from the trees and the overgrown bushes). In addition- i'm just finishing up ripping up the plants that line the yard against our sidewalk.

If I try to plant grass right away, how much grass can I expect to see in a 3 week timeframe?

TIA!

Re: time for grass to grow

  • it depends on a lot of things.  We put down seed 2 weeks ago and have been watering twice daily (it has not rained) and the new grass is about 2-3 inches tall right now.

  • If you diligently water it you should have pretty decent coverage in that amount of time. It will probably be baby fine and brighter green than the rest of your lawn for a while, but should at least cover up the bare dirt. We've been patching in some spots in our backyard where the sod died, and it's definitely been a process
