Frye boots- Have you gotten them stretched out?
I finally pulled the plug and bought the Frye Jane 14L boots. I am in love!
I am able to put my (wide) calves in there but they are a bit tight. I know girls on here have mentioned that they have gotten them stretched at good cobblers.
If so, was it a positive experience? Are the boots still holding up well? Do you feel it has affected the boot and/or quality of leather?
On a side note, do I need to do anything to the leather before I wear them outside? Anything I need to do to maintain the leather over the year?
Here they are in Redwood: http://www.endless.com/FRYE-Womens-Jane-Stitch-Boot/dp/B00260HAJQ
Re: Frye boots- Have you gotten them stretched out?
Mine that I had the shaft stretched on were the Veronica's which is a much thinner softer leather. The shafts don't stand on their own and are made to slouch. I've never treated any of my Fryes and worn them in many a dive bar without a problem, but I probably should have treated them first.
A good cobbler will not touch a good shoe if there is a chance of compromising the integrity of the boot. I'm experimenting with Meltonian Shoe Stretch spray on some cheaper boots to stretch shafts since my good cobbler is 5 hours away by my parent's house. I'm hoping it will help stretch a couple pairs of boots to fit into jeans that I just picked up recently. It's about $6 a can at a cobbler or on Amazon.
How tight were they? Were you able to put them on at all pre-stretching? I can fit in my Janes fine (even with leggings and skinny jeans), but they are tight...
They were on and up but just tight. I have wide calves with nice fat cankles too. The cankles were fine it was the uppermost part of the calf. If you looked at them, they were ok. but I was afraid that being tight would not be good on my legs. I could in no way put jeans into them, NOPE. But the leather on that boot is very thick leather. The other Fryes I have fit nice because they are lower. Not sure how they will look with skirts or dresses but I have to work with what I can get the cankles into. If you can get jeans into them, you might be ok
FormerCity- the leather on the Janes are pretty thick. I have a cobbler I go to who does my resoles but not sure if they're reputable for stretching leather. Will have to check.I definitely don't want my boots to slouch since I have wide calves and skinny ankles. I fear that the slouching would only make it look worse b/c my skinny ankles don't fill out the ankle area.
opracm- thanks for the heads up.
I just ordered the same pair. Did you get the extended calf version? I can't wait to try them on. I have 16" calves, so I'll be grateful if they fit over tights, let alone skinny jeans.
I've had leather boots stretched before and it definitely made a difference. I would just bring them to your cobbler and let them assess the situation.
Hello AlwaysaBridesmaidFinallyaBride
If you could please post a pic of the gusset you had put on your boots I would so appreciate it! I have massive calves and I don't think any amount of stretching will get me into a pair of Frye boots.
Thank you so much!
