OL Tuesday

Dear Nesties,

This is going to be a rough week for me.  My mom had an appointment with a cardiologist on Friday from which she came home and didnt mention anything was wrong.

Yesterday while at work she calls (and leaves a VM) and asked if I could please take Thur off to take her to the Dr with no other details.  Something seemed very off so I called her and she said that on Friday they found a blockage in her heart and they want her to come in this week for a stint (sp?) to be placed in and could I please get Thur off work.

I am obviously taking the day off and going to be with her but I am SO angry because I KNOW there had to be things that led up to this and that I am sure they told her about the blockage during the appointment but she didnt tell me.  This now makes me question if her diabetes is under control or if she is keeping things from me on this.

I hate how non-chalant she is about all this, I know she doesnt want to worry me but when this stuff seems to come out of no where its worse than if she just told me what was going on the whole time.

-stressed out, angry, sad, worried me

Re: OL Tuesday

  • Bobbileigh,

My dad has had a couple of stints now, even after his diabetes was brought under control.  They are very routine and are now used more commonly than bypass surgery.  I know it's scary but it's something doctors do all the time.  There are lots of people out there walking around with stints just due to heart issues who don't have diabetes so I would necessarily say that she's getting it because of diabetes.

I'll be thinking about you on Thursday!

    Julie

    Dear Elton John,

I will be listening to "Your Song" all day long today.  I don't know why.

Thanks for the reassurance and thoughts I appreciate it.  To clarify, I dont think its related to the diabetes but what I am worried about is she is not telling me the whole story regarding her ability (or lack of) to keep her diabetes in control.  From the sounds of it there have been multiple Dr's appts that have lead up to this that I wasnt aware of so I question what else she is hiding.  She has said she has her diabetes under control but I have always doubted this.

  • BL,

Julie is right about it being routine, but it's doesn't feel like that when someone you love is going through it. T&Ps to you and your mom especially Thursday.

    Dear October,

The first time my dad had one, I was terrified.  It didn't help that it was the same date of my grandmother's passing.  Mom had one done too right before her big surgery.

She'll have to carry around a card in her wallet for any possible medical appointment (or if she has to go back into the hospital) that talks about her stint and catheter.  It's a six month time frame if I remember correctly.  Insurance refused to give my dad a bypass until his blockage reached a ridiculous amount (like 80%) but they would pay for stints all day long.  Kind of silly but it's easier for my dad in his condition to do stints than the bypass.

Yea I know that fight. I fight with insurance all day trying to things approved for our patients.

    Dear Fort Worth jobs,

Hire Me! I'm even looking at jobs that would mean a pay cut. I'm not handling the 3 hour commute well anymore and I would like to move closer to come please.

I heart you! So glad I found you. When I'm on hold you help me not to go looney.

  • Dear BL-

I'm glad Deepthi and Julie were able to pipe in about the stints because I don't have a clue about them but will be thinking of you.  Could she possibly be in denial?  Telling others what is going on would mean that it's real.  Not trying to provide an excuse or anything, that just popped into my head as I was reading.

    Dear DH-

Even though it took you an hour and a half to make us pancakes the other night because you made silver dollar pancakes one at a time, it was really thoughtful of you.  And you made us eggs!  Remember the bed vibrating last night?  Yeah, it was because of your snoring.

    Dear random people-

A.) Right turn only means just that.  Not "Go straight."

B.) It's really tacky when someone yells (nicely) "Good morning" so that you can hear them, only for you to obviously ignore them and go onto the next person and say "Good morning, Bob" when you don't normally initiate anything.

    Dear Tuesday-

Feel free to fly by.  I'm ready to go home and also be closer to the weekend.

  • Dear BL -

Praying for your family this week. I can only imagine how scary that must be, and I hope you'll be able to have better communication with your mom in the future.

    Dear Tomorrow,

Please come quickly. That 2 day mini-vacay in San Antonio is sounding better every second.

  • Dear BL, I agree with shortgirl--I was going to say the same thing.  Could be denial, could be that she is afraid herself and doesn't want to worry you.  Just be there for her and then maybe you could gently bring up your concerns after the procedure.

Dear Las Vegas, I cannot wait to see you on Thursday!

  • Dear Tuesday,

You started too early this morning!  I just wanted to snooze for another hour or so.

    ~Sleepy Me

    Dear Self,

Get yourself together!  You've been doing so dang good about not eating every possible bad-for-you thing out there.  It's nobody's birthday weekend anymore, so get back in your healthier groove before you undo all your hard work.  I mean it!

    ~Disappointed Me

    ETA: Dear Vacationing OMHs,

I am so jealous.  So so so jealous of you all.  But I hope you have lots and lots of fun!

    ~Green with Envy Angie

  • BL - Maybe she didn't tell you so that it didn't freak her out.  I usually don't tell my mom things about my health until I know for sure what's going on, because I try to stay calm about it and I know as soon as I tell her, she will worry and then that will make me worry.

Deepthi - Um... I already pulled out my decorations and my house is Halloween'd out.  Except for lights outside - I will wait until October 1st for that.  And yes, I put lights up outside.  Halloween is my favorite holiday.  :)

  • Dear Deepthi, Lacey and Any Other Halloween Nesties,

We will be decorating this weekend and we got our costumes--we're going as Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head!!!!!

I would have already decorated but DH told me to wait! I have to wait for the month of to decorate for each holiday. The only exception is I get to put up Christmas the day after Thanksgiving which is technically still in November. I think BIL will be helping me!

  • Dear Nesties,

I wanted to let y'all know that I am having surgery tomorrow. I found a large lump in my neck back in May and they said it is a thyroid nodule.  The doc will remove it and I will be out of work for a week.  As of now I have nothing wrong with my thyroid levels and I will find out the results of the biopsy after the surgery.  I'll hopefully post within a couple days after to let y'all know how it went.

~Girl who isn't looking forward to this, but ready to get it over with.

    Dear BL,

I hope everything is ok with you're mom.

    Dear Stephie,

    Have a blast in Vegas!

  • Mandaroo, Yikes!  I'll be praying for you!

BL,  I'll be praying for your mom too!

Could I get some T&Ps, please?  I found out this morning - via FB, of course, that there are some fires right outside my hometown, and in the town next to it.  They're on the northwest side, and my parents live southeast of town, but still, it's a bit nervewracking.  I *think* they're under control based on some more recent posts, but I don't know if that means they've put them out, or have stopped them from spreading.  And of course my mom isn't answering her phone right now.

  • Dear Amanda, I had a nodule some years back.  I never had it removed, just drained a few times and I took Synthroid for a few years to keep it from returning.  I'll be thinking of you but rest assured it will most likely be benign and nothing to worry about.  My sister has one now too.

Thanks so much everyone.  I wouldn't have it removed, but it is too large not to.  The doc said if I didn't do it now that I would have to remove it eventually anyway.  I'm sure it will be nothing too!  I just wish it had never appeared. :~)

Oh my goodness! I'll definitely be praying for you. Your attitude about just getting in there and getting it done is really admirable... I'd probably be a mess about it, but I'm a big ole wuss. :)

Amanda - My MIL had one removed years ago and she suffered no ill effects and has no scarring. Just for another vote of confidence for you! - Leslie

Dear girl on another board - Calling your DH "the peen" on the boards is not cute. In fact, I find it pretty crude and although I am likely reading way too much into it, it really lets everyone know what you value him for. Since the board you frequent is very drama free, I'm letting it go, but really? - Leslie

  • Amanda and Angie - T&Ps your way!!
  • I just found out that there's a second fire, about 9 miles from my parents' house.  Called my dad, he didn't even know about it.  It's 6 acres, according to the forest service website.  Needless to say, I'm a little distracted from right now.
  • Dear Nesties,

While I am sad that I don't have any more big vacations planned for this year... I am thrilled that I just scheduled the rest of my vacation days.   Between vacation days and holidays....I will have a long weekend every two weeks for the rest of the year. :)

    Signed,

Maybe I can get through this year after all, ME

  • Amanda,
T&P with you.  I'm sure all will be okay, but please let us know after your surgery.

    BL,
T&P for your mom as well.  My grandpa had a stint put in about 10 years ago after a minor heart attack and he has been healthy ever since!  As for her not telling you, my mom wasn't telling me everything about her medical issues after my dad passed away because she didn't want to worry me.  I finally told her that was not okay.  I was not going to get overly worried or emotional, but we needed to stick together and support each other.  This way if anything ever happens, I know what is going on and she has someone to talk to and share with when she is going through things.  Since then she has been much better about telling me when the doctor asks for extra tests, etc.

    Leslie,
Someone calling her DH that on a message board just seems like she is doing it for the shock factor.  But it is disturbing that someone would call their DH that.

    Dear allergies,
OMG, you suck!  Please go away and take this pounding sinus headache with you.

  • 1lb of chicken

1 large jar of chunky salsa

    1 can of black beans
