Hey I talked to H about his Kindle and he says it works fine.  The only thing is it is not connected to a 3G but he thinks there are ways to down load to his lap top and then add to Kindle.  He reads it at night before sleeping.  Hasn't had issues with sand but he is in a room so I don't know if that is a difference.

There is a free program you can download called Calibre. You can use it to format any e-books for your specific device and then also organize your library. You can use it to upload or delete books to/from your device. I use it for our Kindle and Nook Color and it works wonderfully.

Thanks . My husband works is in a room most of the time but when there is a sand storm he says sand gets everywhere. I think I am going to go for it he will be home by the end of the year so it will probably be okay.
