RFOTD

The average American worker makes $752 per week, as of late 2010.

Re: RFOTD

  • That's only 39,104 a year.  Hard to imagine that's the average (since I can't imagine living easily on that in the Bay Area).  And that's for workers...not counting unemployed.  Either COL is even lower than I imagine or a lot of people are REALLY hurting.

wow, federal minimum wage would only get you 290 a week!

  • In 2010 I took home right about that and yet my salary was technically much higher. That's how much was taken out, mostly for health insurance. And no, it wasn't easy to live on it in the Bay Area. When I moved to the Bay Area I was making what is now minimum wage and that wasn't easy either. Yeah, I think a lot of ppl are hurting but COL is also a lot lower elsewhere.

Too, that's not take home (as far as I'm reading it)  I remember working at Blockbuster when I was a manager and making $7 an hour.  I think I made $13,800 that year (and that was on my tax return, not take home).  That's when I was pregnant and I realized pretty quickly that there was no way I could afford to parent on that!
