If you converted a crib to a full size bed

Was the bed really high up?  We just did it this weekend and I can't imagine how hard it would be for her to get in if I hadn't gotten the low profile box spring.  There is 11 inches of space under the bed which is much more than our own bed.  I kept asking DH if he was sure that he did it right, but even after double checking it appears this is the way it is suppose to be.  We have the babi italia pinehurst furniture.  Just curious if this is normal or not.  Teagan will be getting a pretty little step stool for her room now :)

Re: If you converted a crib to a full size bed

  • We converted my daughter's bed a few years ago.  Yes, it is higher then I would have expected, she has gotten used to it.

  • We did before we bought the mattress/box spring.  Decided full was too big and (MH is handy) and cut it down to a twin.  Went to get the twin stuff, brought it home and it was so so high off the floor!  So we wrapped up the box spring and put it in the basement.  So she just uses the mattress and later on if she wants it higher, she can have the boxspring.

  • Kelsey's is really high too, I thought she'd never be able to get it, but she gets in and out faster than I can!

  • E did but it's a full box spring and pillow top mattress (the guest bed) so it's obviously high, but still lower than own bed.
  • I think we had the same crib. When i converted i bought the box spring and mattress and it was ridiculously high. Came to find out we didn't need the box spring so i had to give it away. With just the mattress it's a perfect height.

I wish I would have known that the box spring wasn't necessary. I guess it does have good support. We were suprised to see how many slats for support went in the frame.  Oh well. At least it's a low profile box spring and with a step stool she's fine.

I'm gonna take advantage of all that space under there for storage!

  • We have the same furniture. I did hear that it was really high. Luckily, we have a full mattress that is fairly new that we are going to use for the bed when we convert it in a couple of days. If its too high, I'll try using without the box spring.

Do you have a dust ruffle? I'm wondering if its so high that we'll need to get one.

I don't have a dust ruffle. The way his room is set up, you don't really see it as you walk in.

  • Yeah, it's pretty high.  I put a little decorative step stool at the end of the bed and when I first converted it I had rails on both sides thinking, that would be quite a fall while my daughter adjusted going from crib-to-bed (rail-less now).
