I was going to make tacos tonight. I was actually going to cook!!! I went to get some ground beef out of the deep freeze. Well, the green light on the deep freeze wasn't on so I opened it and shut it and it still didn't go on. I opened it up and it was not cold. The beef was bleeding through some of the packaging and it was soggy and the roasts and briskets only had a slight coldness to them and I had to feel for it. I texted DH and he was able to call me b.c. he was on his plan time. He starts work 2 hours before I do (he has an early start school, I have a late one.)
Anyway, he had me check the circuit breakers. They were fine but the outlet is GFO and the red button was pushed out. It was plugged in but the red button was pushed out and therefore, the outlet was off. As soon as I pushed the button I heard the freezer start humming. We think it went off Sat when DH turned on the heat/furnace to make the sure heat worked but we are not sure. We had bought a third of a cow from his parents (they farm) and it was all in there. Now, his parents never let us pay even though we were supposed to b.c. DH worked on the farm this summer and helped them out so they hadn't let us pay.. There was also some steaks and roasts they had given us. We lost it all and I knew right away. He came home and cleaned it but called me at work and said it was all unuseable....which I had known but I guess he was hoping. He is more upset than I am and is in a bad mood. I am keeping it in perspective and being grateful this is the worst thing that happened today. I tried to tell him that compared to what could happen or that his friend would be glad to lose everything in his deep freeze and have his mother still alive, but he was like well we could say that about anything. He just needs to come to terms with it. (He is like this over things...he had to "mourn" a house once that he really wanted but it had so many problems {which i kept telling him it did but he didn't check into it until I wouldn't stop} so we chose not to make an offer, but for a few days he was pissy. Of course it worked out for the better and our house-which we looked at the same day for the first time we looked at that other one for the second-is so much better and we lucked out with the neighborhood and neighbors!)
Anyway, what a day. Now he is unsure if he wants to get part of a cow again b.c. he didn't think we used enough. But we have used it plenty and given some away and would have used it more if it was still frozen. The good news is my friend called and got free tickets to go see The Addams Family the musical tomorrow night so we get to go!!! Yeah!! So the day ends on a good note. I work with her but we barely get to talk (we try before or after but we are always running or trying to get work done and we don't eat lunch together after we have for five years) so I was just thinking that so it is great timing. We are doing dinner also. (She was a BM in my wedding!) Yeah!! Congrats if you read all this!! Sorry it is so long!!! Happy rest of the week to you all!
Re: What a day!
Bummer about the meat and the deep freeze; my DH can get like that about silly things too.
Enjoy the Aadams Family, I LOVE the soundtrack and can't wait to see it when it comes through DC
