Randomly hump day

I hope it's small!  I'd be too intimidated to do a large race for my first one.  :)

Large races are better for me because there are more people and therefore more varied paces.  Since I'm a relatively slow runner, I get uncomfortable feeling like I'm going to be the last finisher or left behind, so I'll try to keep up with a too-fast pace and then it comes back to bite me later in the race.

I also feel like there is strength in numbers.  At Riverbank, it was so powerful to be in this enormous swell of people, for the first 2-3 miles of that one I felt almost carried by my fellow runners.

Also, more participants=more spectators and crowd support is the best!

Finally, I feel like there is more anonymity.  There are too many people out there for anyone to be paying attention to me.

Hmmm...you have a lot of good points.

I guess I will see how I feel on Nov 5th around 11:00 am.  Wink

I'm sure you'll have a good experience.  These points were formulated after many years of participating in races.  During my first few, I didn't really think about this at all, I just tried to get through the run without dying Wink

I just wanted you to see the benefits of big races and not be intimidated by them.

    Haha, that is my goal!

  • Darn rain...we were supposed to have family day at Art Prize this morning/afternoon. I'm having a hard time being motivated to go with this rain. We were thinking after naps. But I guess we will see.  I guess I should go pull out their old tennis shoes so if they get their feet soaked no big deal.

It's holding us back too.  I know we could do indoor stuff, but this weather makes me want to wrap up in a blanket and read.

  • We've never done the zoo goes boo event before.  Has anyone here?  What can you tell me? Looks like a good time, but I think I've heard mixed reviews in the past.

$6/person (and $3 for my family - members), we might do that for part of Henry's party.  If it's nice out.

We are still not quite coordinate enough (patient enough, have good enough kid ha ha) yet to do indoors stuff yet.  We are just venturing into not using the double stroller and usually regret it 1/2 way through out trip, when we are usually the furthest from our car.

  • Warning, vent.

My daycare is realllllly starting to upset me.  She gave me 3 more days in October that she is going to be closed for.

We don't have anyone that can watch T.  Hence why we pay her to do it.  It's so stressful trying to find someone.  And then we have to pay double, since we have to pay whoever we find.  And she never gives us a break, since he's still "full time".

We are supposed to leave for Florida on Oct 19th.  We were going to drop T off at daycare in the morning and my mom was going to pick him up.  She's watching him while we're gone.

Well, now daycare is closed on the 19th.  I have no idea what we're going to do.  Everyone we know has a job.  My one hope (my cousin, recently CMU grad currently searching for a job) got a phone interview today.  I'm super happy for her.  But now I literally have no one to ask.

It sucks because I really love this DCP and T loves going there, but I can't deal with this on a monthly basis.

I think for b-day outing with a big group of people it could be fun.  I took the girls last year by myself and it was ok. It really wasn't worth paying the extra money though for a bunch of trinkets, but again it was just the girls and I (or did I go with someone else?).   By then, we had been to the zoo several times that year, that they didn't care and we already had our family halloween party.

Another idea is to go to to the Meijer Gardens. If you did both sides of the family, you could get the group tour rate.  If you call yourself a mom's group Wink you could probably go under the children's tour rate.

Children* (Groups of 10 or more):
    2 and under are free
3-18 years: $3 each for tours; $5 each for programs
    Teachers and Chaperones: $3 each

    Tours are a one-hour, volunteer-led interactive experience.

Otherwise call your self a family reunion and go with the adult tour for $7 an adult.  There is a gazebo in front near the parking lot, you could do cake there or go to the twnshp park down the road.

I hate to say this, but it is time to find a new center or provider.  Does she have a handbook with her policies.  I'm sorry but when you run a home center like that you just can't keep randomly take days off like that.

Thank you for making me feel like I'm not overreacting.

I will start the new hunt soon...

I don't have kids, but can imagine that this must be so frustrating.  I agree to check out what the policies are and what is the minimum notice she must give.  If she doesn't have such a policy, perhaps you could get with some of the other parents and meet with her to request a policy.  I can't imagine that you are the only frustrated parent.

Minivans are crazy expensive to rent.  It's simple economics really--those who demand them really need that kind of people-moving capacity and thus will pay top dollar for it.  Unless they are budget savvy like you and just rent two cars.

  • Telling Allison that Chuck E Cheese is a good activity for a rainy day is coming back to bite us in the butt. Smile  I guess that is what our plans are going to be for tonight.

Our first trip to Florida long long ago, we didn't reserve a car.  I thought you could just walk up to a counter and book something when you got there.  Haha.  (I was 18 and naive.)

Every single rental place had zero cars for rent.  We ended up with a mini van and it cost us a little more than $300 and I remember being so pissed because I thought we got ripped off.

Today?  They are going for nearly $700.  Grrr.

I just booked 1 car at $198.  Still high, but better than the $300 I've been seeing.  Now to book car number 2...

Haha.  Have fun!  I can't wait to take T to a place like this.  He'll love it.  :)

Was someone in your 1st trip over 25?  Or at least over 21?  I didn't think rental car companies would rent to someone that is 18.  Based on that, $300 probably wasn't a terrible deal and you likely had to pay surcharges for "under 25 yo driver".

And Indifferent at $198.  That's crazy.  You REALLY need to re-activate that traveler plus membership.  I only pay $198 for a convertible!  Through TP you have access to the same search engine that travel agents use (which is sometimes way cheaper, sometimes not) and you get access to lots of coupons which are usually for free upgrades, rate discounts and free days (these almost always require a Saturday night keep-over and most often apply to the main categories like compact, full, midsize, etc).

  • So... the kids and I went to Arnie's to see their AP entry (hey pals, it's not at the bakery, it's at the empty lot where the restaurant sat).  We were in the neighborhood anyhow, otherwise, I wouldn't make the trip.  But, I have info.  Maybe this is old news, but...  they're rebuilding at the old Leonard location starting soon (Fall), and they're doing the Knapp's Corners location in 2012.
