Food ideas for a pumpkin carving party.
Hi ladies,
I'll be hosting my 2nd annual carving contest, last year, we had just adults and started pretty late so just the usual, chips, dip and taquitos where on the menu.
This year, we will be starting at 6.
I was thinking of doing simple, cold things. Like a southwest salad, and a sandwich platter along with the usual snacks. However, if you were coming over at 6 would you be expecting something more substantial?
Also, if you've ever done a sandwich platter--- is it easier to make it or buy it?
TIA.
Re: Food ideas for a pumpkin carving party.
I think cold sandwiches are fine for something like this. People will be icky and working, so it's not like they need an elaborate meal.
I think it'd be nice to do a meat and cheese roll-up platter and have buns and condiments separately. I'm not a huge fan of pre-made deli sandwiches, but I'll eat the meat off a deli platter. Plus, then there's no guessing about what's what.
Add maybe a cold pasta salad and some chips and brownies and I think you're set. Have fun, sounds like a blast!

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
I'm not exactly sure what a southwest salad is but I think you'd be okay. I'd probably do soup too, mainly because it's cold here and it seems more fall like. Pumpkin, potato, chili would be simple.
I agree with tar to not get a premade sandwich. You could buy a meat/cheese tray, but it wouldn't be too hard to make one up and then you can control what's in it. And it's cheaper.
Yup, totally agree. Go with your salad, a meat and cheese tray, a platter of rolls, some condiments and some desserts that are easy to pick up and eat (cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats). I also agree with 6fsn that a fall-ish soup would be awesome. You could also have a little melted butter and spices on hand to grab some of the pumpkin seeds, give them a quick rinse, toss in butter and spices and roast for 15 minutes for a quick and event-specific snack.
Have fun!

I've had a pumpkin carving party for the past 4 years now. I always make a large pot of homemade chili. I usually bake baked potatoes and set up a potato bar or even buy fritos to make frito pies. This is always a hit!
Plus I make cupcakes or cookies. Have fun!
