Simon pooped in the house this morning, then when I came home from my walk he wouldn't eat his breakfast. He went outside and threw up. And then he cuddled up and went to sleep( this part is not abnormal). I got home and he had pottied in the house again. His poop was really dark, part was very tar like and the other part was full of grass and really loose. I tried to get him to eat some pumpkin and he won't. He won't drink any water. He is pretty tired. I don't know if it was the fatty bits of stuff MIL was feeding him this weekend or what. I thought if it was that that he would have been like this Monday and not today. I want to stay home with him but E thinks he will be fine. I'm hoping E gets off soon so he can check on him. What would should I do? Vet right away or just wait it out a day?
Sorry to post and run. Thanks for the input.
Re: Puppy Mommas
I would say go to the vet. I would not think it would be the food that MIL gave him on Saturday. My thinking is like yours, I would have thought that would happen on Monday. Did he just start getting like this?
I just would error on the said of caution becuase that is really not normal. The sooner you get him checked out the better.
Good vibes coming your way.
I'd try a few things, then decide whether the vet visit needs to be right away or in a day.

Do a Snout to Tail checkup. Check his heart rate, his breathing, rub your hands all over him to see if anything hurts. Will he let you rub his belly? Does his poop smell way more than normal? Did he have more activity over the last few days than he normally does? As uncomfortable as it may be for both of you, take his temperature.
How old is he now? He could be going through a teenage rebellion and deliberately going potty in the house. That's not unheard of.
Hunter did this! I agree with what the others have said, keep an eye on him. Also, keep in mind that he might not eat hte pumpkin simply because he doesn't like it. Hunter HATES pumpkin, but if I try bland chicken and sweet potatoes he goes nuts over it and it seems to do the trick. Thankfully since we switched to all grain free he has not had tummy troubles, but when he did we relied on chicken and sweet potato.
Thank you everyone one. He seems to be better now. By the time E got home he had eaten a good portion of his food and drank quite a bit of water. He is acting more like himself now as well so that makes me happy. But we will definitely keep a close eye on him the next couple of days.
Oh and a few things about him if that helps. He is 10 months old, he only eats Blue Buffalo Basics and is a great water drinker. He only gets bits of his food as treats and another treat that I can't remember the name of that doesn't have gluten and corn and such. He doesn't get people food other than peanut butter in his kong. E and I were stupid enough to let MIL give him a small piece of bacon and a piece of sausage and then he got into E's aunts dog's food ( I have no idea what she eats but it looks like it had lots of added colors) and part of a ground beef patty that was in that dogs bowl. I'm pretty sure that is the cause so we plan on not letting MIL give him stuff like that anymore. So he had all of that in the course of less than 24 hours and he never gets fats like that.
And Ojo I'm not sure how to check him for dehydration. But I would love to know how if you could tell me. And I'll keep that link handy in case he has an incident again.
Thanks ladies. He ate most of his food by the time I got off work and seems more like himself now. We are definitely going to keep a close eye on him the next few days.
And Ojo no I don't know how to check him for dehydration.
Oh thank you! I'll definitely practice on him so I know what it looks like normally. And as of this morning he seems like his old self. No potty issues and he was super excited to have breakfast! Which I gave him a bit less of then normal since he didn't each much yesterday and I don't want to over do his tummy.
