We're looking for some new eateries to try out...

About once a week, we go out to eat with our best friends, who are another couple.  We're getting kinda tired of going to the same ol' places all the time.

So, give us some new ideas.  We live in SW OKC and they live in Yukon, so any places near those two areas (so, Moore, SW OKC, Norman, S. Meridian, Mustang, Yukon, etc) would be ideal, but any other places are good too.  Oh, and preferably not TOO expensive, and baby-friendly.  Hole-in-the-wall places are a-ok with us too!

TIA!

  • Hmmmm....

We really like Cheever's or Big Truck Taco which are on 23rd.

Snowful and I like to go to Sage which is downtown but it is REALLY hit or miss.  Last time DH and I went we had a great experience but the time before that was bad.

Victoria's in Norman on campus corner is fantastic and so is Fuzzy Taco.

Have you been to the melting pot?  We usually order cheese, salads, and chocolate - sooo yummy - and it takes awhile so it provides good bonding time.

One of my very favorite places to eat which is near STILLWATER is El Tapatio mexican. Oh my.

Perhaps Boymom or Tavia could help with the Mustang area....

  • We love going to Go Go Sushi in Moore. We take M there and she always does great. Also Asian Fusion in Norman is realt good, but there is a wait so may not be the best place for a baby (depending on the age)

  • Big Truck Tacos and Mutt's Amazing Hot Dogs are both good. They're on 23rd St. Tarahumara's (sp?) in Norman. Rudy's in Norman off of Highway 9. Lots of good little places on campus (Hideaway, Victoria's, Freebirds) And there's a Zio's on Meridian, yummmm!

  • I 2nd The Melting Pot. I would go for just cheese and chocolate too. You get so much that ordering an acutal meal is kind of a waste.

It may be out of your way but Eischens in Okarche would be great for a Saturday evening. We go about every 3 to 4 months. There is a wait so you would want to take that into consideration. Plus they do not take reservations nor do they seat you. You wait for another group to finish and you steal there table for someone else does.

When we are in OKC we like Pei Wei, Red Robin and Chedders. I know they are all chain resturants but they serve good food.

Mmmm El Tap was my favorite place to eat during college.  So good.

It's been mentioned, but Tarahumara's (however you spell it haha) in Norman is really good Mexican food.  If you like BBQ, Van's is the best and it's sort of hole-in-the-wall like and kid friendly.  I've only been once, but I like The Wedge too.

    IronStarr BBQ

    Iguana Grill

    Tucker's Onion Burgers

    S&B Burger Joint

    The Wedge

  • SUPER sad Freebirds closed... damn them.
  • I LOVE O Asian Fusion. I also love love Mama Rojas on Lake Hefner. For more chain-ish stuff I love Genghis Grill and Five Guys in Moore.
  • We live in Edmond, so our favorite restaurants would probably be a considerable drive but...

Cafe 501, RePUBlic, Flips, Bin 73, Irma's Burger Shack, and Deep Fork are all really good in the NW 50th & Western area.

We like to head down to the midtown area a lot too- Iguana, Sushi Neko, Mushashi's, VZD's...

But, we tend to stay up in our neck of the woods unless we're meeting BoyMom and her H out for dinner. :)

OH- and El Vac in Stillwater... LOVE that place! I could make a LIST of places there that I love and fantasize about daily. ;) I miss college for the food and cheap alcohol... lol

  • I know it's a chain, but if you want to stay on the south side we always enjoy steak at Salt Grass. You could also go up to Cattlemen's. Just make sure you don't go there while there's a rodeo or horse show in town because it can get busy then!

There's a hole-in-the-wall Italian/Greek restaurant that's really good at SW 59th and Western-ish (it's connected I think to Capitol Hill Florist). I think it's called Bella Vista, but don't hold me to that.

There are some great restaurants in the midtown area of OKC also--1492, Cafe do Brasil, McNellie's, Irma's Burger Shack, etc.

In Yukon, Primo's is good. Way better than the Primo's on I-240, IMO.

  • I can't believe there is a Five Guys in Moore and I JUST out about it this week.  I usually have it when I go to the east coast - man, it is so good. I definitely prefer Five Guys to In and Out.  Anyway..maybe that is where we will go tonight.

I have a good friend in Georgia who prefers Five Guys too (I'm In-N-Out). One of my giant foot-in-mouth moments was when I tweeted to this friend to discuss how I tried 5 Guys, and while 5 Guys was good, In-N-Out was so much better... yeah. That's what she said x 1000.

    WHAT?!?!?!?! Noooooooo  =( Bummer...

I second Genghis Grill and Five Guys in Moore (even though they're chains.) They are both delicious! Although, I'm not a fan of Five Guys' fries.

If you're up for a little driving, Jo's pizza in Purcell is awesome! There's one in Norman and Edmond, but they aren't as good as the one in Purcell IMO.

  • I'm not a 5 Guys fan. The fries always seem greasy to me. :( But I'm notorius for sending fries back if they're not perfect. They're just not worth the calories if they're not perfectly hot and crisp on the outside and mealy inside. For 5 Guys, though, I think it's just a personal preference thing. You either enjoy hand cut fries or you don't.

I have no idea where things actually are in the city since I usually read a magazine while DH drives, but in the general OKC area I'm a big fan of The Wedge, The Vine, Big Truck, Cajun King (I LOVE their collards!), Cocina Guatelinda (thanks, Critti!), and Queen of Sheeba. I think Sage (like Puppy mentioned), Trattoria Il Centro, Vito's, and Iron Starr have flashes of brilliance. There's always once course at those place that DH and I look at and say, "Why can't there be more of THIS here? This is AMAZING!" but at the same time, we usually get at least one "I could make this better at home" course, too.

  • I second the recommendations for Queen of Sheba (one of our absolute favorites - we just ate dinner there, actually) and S&B's Burger Joint.  We also really like Cous Cous Cafe near NW 63rd and May and Zam Zam Mediterranean at NW 39th and Macarthur.
