Melissa highly recommends these tutorials, followed by "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson.
Allison got a Rebel T3i!!! She is super excited about it! She stuck with the kit lens for now but next year plans to purchase a better lens.

Allison's H would sell the house and become a renter in a heartbeat if Allison would let him! Homeownership sucks at times.
Woot! Another Canon girl! Melissa has the T2i and loves it. She thinks Allison will be very happy with her purchase.
She recommends using 3 basic Canon lenses to start off - the 18-55 kit kit, the 55-250 IS (~$200 IIRC), and the 50mm f/1.8 (~$100). That's pretty much the standard beginner's gear. By using these, you'll get a feel for your own personal needs for upgrades/future lenses - if you want them. For instance, Melissa found that she really liked the 18-55 range, but needed it to work better in low-light. She saved up and got the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS and loves it. She now has her eye on several other upgrades.
