Tattoos

If you have a tattoo, please answer the following questions:

1) What is it?

2) Where is it?

3) When did you get it done?

3) Level of pain on a scale of 1-10.

4) Level of coverage on a scale of 1-10.

5) Regret it at all (because of age/weight gain/professionalism/anything)?

I've been considering a tattoo off and on for several years and would just like honest opinions of those that have been there!

Re: Tattoos

  • 1. yellow butterfly

    2.  back of my right hip

    3. I got it the summer I turned 19

    4. if a 1 is snuggling with kittens and 10 is snuggling with razorblades and salt, then I would say the pain was about a 5. It was similar to the feeling of being scratched by someone's fingernail.

    5. no regrets. I love my tattoo. I just wish it was somewhere that I saw it more often. I'm considering getting another one. If I do it will be somewhere I can see it on a more regular basis.

    Yeah, that's about right.

  • I really wanted to get the outline of a butterfly on my right hip. When I worked at Walmart, my coworker's boyfriend was a tattoo artist and he did really beautiful work. I had asked him to do my butterfly and he refused because he said when I got pregnant that stop would stretch out too badly and it would never look right again.

I'm still kind of bummed about it.

  • For reference, I've considered either getting a script 'L' or 'R', or a firework(because of our anniversary).  I definitely wouldn't want them big at all, so any recommendations on good places for them?

ETA:  I've also heavily considered a white tattoo.  Definitely love the fact that it's not as visible.

  • I'm glad you posted this, because I've been wanting to get a portrait of Wyatt on my shoulder blade... but we plan to have 2 more kids, so I'm thinking I'll probably wait until I'm completely 100% done.

Lance and I have also thrown around getting our brand and wedding date on our left ribs (where our brand goes on the cows) but I'm a chicken sh!t and I'm scared that one would hurt too bad lol

I agree that it would probably hurt like crazy, but I love the idea.  Love. It.

thanks :) I have to admit I'm tempted... it would need to be high enough that it wouldn't get stretched out (although I doubt there could be much more damage than there already is). I've been told emla cream helps a lot

  • 1) What is it? I have two. I have a fairy and I also have a four-leaf clover.

    2) Where is it? Fairy -- upper, left side of my back (behind my shoulder). Clover -- top of right foot

    3) When did you get it done? Fairy -- Junior year of college (2000?), Clover -- 2003

    3) Level of pain on a scale of 1-10. Fairy -- 6? I came and went though. Clover -- 9? But only for a couple minutes. It is small.

    4) Level of coverage on a scale of 1-10. What does this mean?

    5) Regret it at all (because of age/weight gain/professionalism/anything)? No regrets. I'd love at least one more -- My mom, cousins and I will probably get a butterfly in memory of my aunt (the cousins' mom, my godmother).

    4) Level of coverage on a scale of 1-10. What does this mean?

Just means how easy is the tattoo to cover is situations that call for it, or are you concerned at all with covering it?  I would feel like any tattoo that I get would need to be easily covered, but I'm interested in hearing any other takes on it.

If you have a tattoo, please answer the following questions:

    1) What is it?  Scrollwork with a rose above it

    2) Where is it?  tramp stamp region (DH almost knocked someone out when they mentioned these were trashy) LOL

    3) When did you get it done? The week I turned 18

    3) Level of pain on a scale of 1-10.  Not bad - the outlining wasn't too fun when it hit my backbone.  I guess a 5.  I'll also admit that I got my navel pierced when I was 16. It was fine with my mom, but she didn't want to take me.  We knew someone who did piercings, so I sat at his mother's dining room table, lacy tablecloth and all, and he pierced me.  I wish my stomach was still flat so I could wear my navel ring again :(

    4) Level of coverage on a scale of 1-10. Not quite sure what you mean?  It's probably 6 inches across.

    5) Regret it at all (because of age/weight gain/professionalism/anything)?  It's tough to hide at school.  No one has ever discovered it.  I do wish I had thought it through more... I wish I had angel wings instead, or something along my side.

Oh yeah, I can cover them easily -- but its not a huge deal at work if people see my foot.

  • I have a pink lily in the middle of my shoulder blades. It about the size of a large orange.

Yes I still love it and got it when I was 18

It is easy to cover up but if I am wearing a shirt with a losser neckline it will sometimes peak out. Students have seen it but it is no biggie.

It did hurt I would say about a 5 or 6 with giving birth being a 10 lol. It feels like someone is dragging a needle across your skin, probably because they are. Mine took about and hour.

  • 1) What is it? I have stars.

    2) Where is it? One star outline on the underside of each wrist, and a big cluster of 9 stars on my left shoulderblade.

    3) When did you get it done? Wrists - when I was 19, Shoulder - 22

    3) Level of pain on a scale of 1-10.  - The one on the shoulder didn't bother me at all. The one on the wrist was more uncomfortable, but it didn't really hurt if you ask me. I'd say a 2 or 3 tops.

    4) Level of coverage on a scale of 1-10.  - The wrists not so easy to cover. I wear a lot of long sleeves though. The shoulder most people don't even know I have done.

    5) Regret it at all (because of age/weight gain/professionalism/anything)? Not at all. I made sure to choose something that I wouldn't find offensive when I got older. I have a friend who got a big No Doubt band tattoo on their right arm. Boy is he kicking himself for it now!

  • I haven't got mine yet but actually had the appt scheduled when I found out I was pregnant with Eli. When I am done nursing Eli I will be going in to get them done.

I want 3 tiny fireworks on the top of my foot or inside of my wrist. I really want my wrist but don't like that its hard to cover if needed. Then I am getting a cross the inside of my foot below the bumpy bone.

  • What is it? I have a cross with a heart in the middle with my brothers name, DOB, and DOD.

Where is it? It is on the left side of my back by my shoulder blade.

When did you get it done? I was 18.

Level of pain on a scale of 1-10.  It didn't really hurt at all.  Probably a 3 or 4.

Level of coverage on a scale of 1-10.  It is really easy to cover it up.  It only shows when I have on a tank top for a swimming suit.  Sometimes if I wear a boatneck shirt it will show.

Regret it at all (because of age/weight gain/professionalism/anything)? Not one bit!  I want another one, but I can't decide what I would get.  I want it on my foot.

  • I don't have one, never thought I would want one, but the older I get the more I do. Especially a white one like you were talking about Liz. I want a Harry Potter related one, trying to decide between behind my ear (would have to be tiny, but that would be good), on my foot (on the inside heel below the knobby bone like someone mentioned), or my wrist.

These are some of my "inspiration" ish pics

This is not 100% true.  My tattoo is on my left hip and did not stretch one bit during pregnancy.  Even at my biggest right before having Kyle, it still looked exactly the same as the day I got it and it still looks that way, so don't rule it out completely if you really want it there!

  • 1) What is it? Tropical looking flower

    2) Where is it? left hip

    3) When did you get it done? My senior year of college

    3) Level of pain on a scale of 1-10.  I'm a baby... I'd say like 6is.

    4) Level of coverage on a scale of 1-10. You can only see it if I am wearing a bathing suit.

    5) Regret it at all (because of age/weight gain/professionalism/anything)? Sometimes, but over all I'm still glad I did it.

I say do it..... you are kind of at the age where I don't think you'd really regret it ever, because you have had time to think about it as an adult.

I had a GTF once that had her tattoo completely disfigured during her pregnancy, and then after it went back to it's normal shape. Obviously she's a lucky B, but it CAN happen.

Of course it CAN happen... I'm just saying, in my experience, mine had gone through a pregnancy completely unchanged, so it's not a given that it would be destroyed if it's in that location and goes through a pregnancy.  I'm just saying, don't rule it out if you really want it on your hip.
