awkward
A friend of mine that I worked with many years ago was laid off from her job in July. She contacted me last week and I encouraged her to apply as we were looking to add another admin. Well, she got ringing endorsements from me and another woman we worked with. However, there are several more people where I work now that also worked at the same place we did. They did not give her such ringing endorsements and it was decided to pass on her. She got the letter yesterday and is now asking me about it. I don't know what was said by these other people and I wish she would just accept the thanks but no thanks and move on but I feel that she won't.

I would just remind her that you did not have the power to make the decisions and that you do not know why they made the decisions they did (even if you do know). Its up to her to let it go after that, and if she brings it up again just remind her that you really had nothing to do with it. What a crappy situation, I hope she can get over it, if only for the sake of you not having to deal with that awkwardness.
