FFFC and AW Friday

Here we go! Happy Friday :)

FFFC: A co-worker is driving me absolutely batty with her constant whining about her allergies (some other coworkers think she's a hypochondriac, and I'm starting to agree), her hypocrisy, and her sour attitude. She bitched at me about leaving a few chairs and stands in disarray in our shared space, but yesterday when her group used another room for rehearsal, she and her students didn't put things back the way they were; another class came in and put the room back in order. She said she damaged her vocal cords "screaming" at her group. Really? Screaming at them...why did you have to do that? I think she's in over her head.

I don't really have any AWs this week...my thumb is healing nicely, though it looks awful. Some of you know what that's about. Why do things itch so much when they are healing? Anyone know the answer to that?

Re: FFFC and AW Friday

  • FFFC: I don't like when some people assume that they are the only one with a life.  Contrary to popular belief, H and I have a life, too, and surprise! it doesn't revolve around waiting for others to call us, come visit us, or watch our kids for us.  We're perfectly capable of doing things together as a family, and most of the time when you call us, we already have plans.  We don't just make those plans up as you call (like the crazy paranoia is telling you we do).

I also am not a fan of these above said people expecting me to change my plans for them.  It is not my fault we/the kids/all of us are unavailable when you give 1-2 days notice...especially on a weekend.

AW: My 17 m/o peed on the potty 3 times the other day.  She gets very excited when my 3 y/o has to go potty and insists on sitting on the potty next to her (3 y/o uses "adult" potty; 17 m/o uses toddler potty).  I'm crossing fingers and toes that potty training her will be much easier and faster than 3 y/o!

AW2: Negotiations have ended.  H wants to TTC (he wants a boy).  Any advice/help on how to make that happen? (not the baby-making part...we've got that down...the boy part)

  • FFFC 1: I included registery cards in my wedding invitations Surprise Of course, I was 19 and unaware that it's considered "tacky".

FFFC 2 (which isn't flameful at all): When I type in Word and misspell something, I often find myself waiting for the "predicted text" thing to pop up haha.

AW: I've done a great job with my workout plan this week! I usually come up with a plan for the week and it doesn't really happen. But this week I've done all my running I've had scheduled AND my strength training! If only I could get the whole eating healthy thing down.

  • FFFC: I think we're finally making some progress with potty training - at home, that is. At daycare, whole different story. They keep insisting that something's wrong with him because he starts crying when he has to go potty and won't go in their potty room. I just took him to the doctor last week, and he got a clean bill of health on all fronts. So now I'm starting to wonder what they do to encourage potty training and if it's freaking him out, because he is NOT that way at home. I'm pretty irritated about it.

FFFC 2: The drivers in this town drive me batty. I don't know how you guys in OKC and the bigger cities in the state handle driving, because Stillwater is just ridiculous.

No real AW, besides the fact that we're finally making progress with potty training. Wasn't sure it would happen, to be quite honest. Oh, and we're going to a pumpkin patch tomorrow. I can't wait to take pictures of JJ there.

Apparently we're good at making boys... not sure how we're doing it though Wink

  • It seems like mental disorders (such as borderline) are being the go to excuse for people and their normal human behaviors.  A person having a hard time making a decision does not mean they are borderline.  A person making a bad financial decision does not mean they are borderline.  I could go on and on but I am just going to leave it at this.

  • FFFC: Last weekend I met someone who some of my friends used to know, and they can't stand her because of multiple incidents of extremely poor and inexcusably stupid behavior. I generally like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I totally judged this girl and will continue to do so.

  • AW 1: G is such an awesome sleeper that I don't want to talk about it for fear I'll jinx it.

AW 2: DH told me the other night his paycheck for this week would be 16 hrs short.  When I asked why he said he volunteered to donate those hours and pay to a coworker who's been out because his dad is losing his battle with cancer.  I told DH that was so nice of him and it just reminded me what a big heart he has and how giving he is.  I love that about him.

ETA.....AW 3:  My aunt watched G for us on Sunday so DH and I could have a "date day".  We just did some shopping and went out to eat, but it was so nice to get to spend some time together out of the house.

FFFC:  DH's cousin is due December 30th and I really hope the baby doesn't come by Christmas.  I want G to be the only baby at Christmas and, since it's his first one, I want him to get all the attention.  His first holidays are a big deal to me and I know that if cousin's baby is here G will be overlooked.  So I've got my fingers crossed they have a January baby.

  • I'm starting NROLFW tomorrow, and I'm also going to amp up my running so I can start training for a half in January. I know I'm going to have to eat better once I start, so I have been filling up on disgusting fast food this week. My lunch today will be my "last meal" and I'm trying to decide if it's worth the drive to get something good (ie: disgusting).

Yes, it is always worth the drive to get something "good."

Awesome! Have you picked which half you're doing?

I'm definitely doing the Memorial Half in early May. I might add another in there in the spring, but I'm trying to give myself plenty of time to train because my schedule is so full.

  • FFFC: My MIL is an awesome gardener and every time she comes to visit, she's super kind and loves to go outside and do yard work. She's one of those people who can't sit still and so she loves to go outside and get her hands in the dirt. (I know---I'm really lucky!) When she asked what she could do, DH asked her to trim this one gorgeous tree a little bit, then went inside and took a shower (I know---dumb move.) He woke me up that morning by saying, "Don't say anything to my mom about the tree. I think I really hurt her feelings." She had completely hacked it up. It matches the others in the yard now, but it was always the pretty one Sad Everyone but MIL is to blame for this (me for sleeping in, DH for showering while his mom does manual labor, etc.) but I actually got a little choked up (while in the shower.) Over a tree. A tree. There are people with real problems in this world.

AW: In the past 7 days I have gotten 4 papers out- 2 conference papers, 1 second revise and resubmit, and 1 first revise and resubmit. I've also started coding for a new paper on fertility differences. That kind of research productivity NEVER happens. It usually takes me between a month and a year to revise a paper (one of the papers I had for the last 16 months just kind of ignoring it because I don't want to be rejected) and at least a couple of months to do a conference paper, so the stars alligned perfectly, I got my butt in gear, and got to cross LOTS of things off the list. Phew! :)

  • FFFC:  This is kind of random, but I hope Amanda Knox gets a not guilty verdict.  I've always felt that there has been substantial doubt as to her guilt in this case from the very beginning. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of normal life she can lead if she is released, but this whole ordeal has clearly taken a toll on her.  I also feel bad for Meredith Kercher's family that they may never have peace regarding this case. I think if my loved one were violently killed like she was, I would be raising hell about how the police have handled the investigation and the way the forensic evidence was botched.  I can't imagine the feeling of possibly sending an innocent person to prison, or not knowing with 100% certainty what really happened to Meredith.

She would never have been tried or convicted in an American court system. Not enough evidence.  Or..any evidence...

  • For whatever reason, our SW card is offering interest free until December 2012 for all purchases made during October.  We are probably being "rewarded" for the insane amount of activity on our card over the past six months (bathroom reno, kitchen reno, etc).

There is a *tiny* part of me that thinks this is a sign to buy the Chanel bag I want and pay it off over the next year. Stick out tongue  I won't.  But that doesn't mean I won't stop thinking about it.

  • FFFC; I really wish my boss would not have returned to work after her FMLA ran out. Another co-worker and myself had my office running smoothly and since my boss came back on Monday it has been a madhouse. My boss is on a performance evaluation period as we speak because of her poor performance before she went out on FMLA in July. She has asked me and a few other quite a few pretty dumb questions about HER job that were even questioning if she even knows what is going on. She has been at her current position for 4 1/4 years and she is asking me how to do things that she has been doing ever since she started here10+ years ago. She is a total basketcase that has seriously lost it. She interupted me about 6 times this morning do make sure she was doing somthing correct while I was working on major deadline stuff. I'm not sure how much more of her non-sence I can take. I am secretly hoping she gets canned or demoted just because she make our whole department look bad and she screws stuff up everyday! NO LIE!

No AW that I can think of.

Oh, it doesn't excuse shiity behavior, but I promise you that mental illness (including bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, etc.) are very real and debilitating disorders. If you've ever had a loved one that struggled with this, you'll k ow there's a fine line between understanding that their brain doesn't process things in the same way yours does such that you can't expect them to make the same logical choices you would and also holding them accountable for the impact their decisions have on others.

    Wendy, my mother is bipolar.

So do you think your mom uses it as an excuse or that other people excise her behavior because of it?

I am not trying to start a sh!t storm, but damn.

She's simply saying that she realizes what a bipolar diagnosis entails, and she's annoyed when normal behaviors are automatically labeled.  I'm not sure why you feel the need to analyze her FFFC so deeply.  I have noticed you've been very snarky and critical toward Puppy lately.  Is there a reason you've been unleashing the beast on her?

On another note...If a person has been diagnosed bipolar by someone qualified to do so, that's one thing.  But to say that someone and their actions sound bipolar doesn't necessarily mean that they are.  I'm referring to tbvenable's H...you know, when you said he sounded bipolar.

It's frustrating to me when people make snap judgments about others (especially when it's someone they love but are just a little frustrated with) over something that really isn't a huge deal in the scheme of things.  He likes vehicles.  He wants to enjoy something nice. He changes his mind a few times about what he wants to do regarding the vehicles.  This doesn't equal bipolar.

I'm sure when you know someone bipolar or have experienced it first hand, you see symptoms in others that are familiar to you.  But playing internet doctor isn't cool.  Send her a PM next time if you're really that concerned.

  • I certainly haven't meant to be snarky to PW at all. I don't think I've even said anything that was critical of her. I know I said one statement bothered me, but I was pretty sure that it wasn't intended the way it came across and said as much. As far as I know, I was respectful about disagreeing.

The comment to tbvenable wasn't based just on an interest in vehicles, it was based on several things she posted that, yes, shows her H may share some behaviors common to bipolar disorder. By no means did I demand he must be or claim to be an Internet doctor. I made an observation (or really, agreed with one), that's all. I believe I even offered support or someone to talk to. I'm not really sure how that's me being a jerk or why it was necessary to be a PM.

  • I was the one who first threw out the word bi-polar to tbvenable. My "interenet diagnosis" was based on more than an interest in new vehicles. I'm not going to bring all the other stuff up. Maybe for privacy purposes, my initial comment would have been better via PM. I'm not sure. Anyway, didn't mean to make anyone uncomfortable, was just trying to help.
