50mm f/1.8D AF lens -- question for photography people

I am lusting after this lens! However, I have the Nikon D40, which cannot autofocus with it. Would you still get it? Upgrading to a new camera is not an option right now.

i had convinced my friend who started with a nikon d40 to get this lens...prior to me knowing about it not being able to autofocus...  and she still do this day does not will not buy another prime lens LOL

i bet Jax could make some other nikon related suggestions.

OK, it appears that the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX does autofocus with my camera, so that is probably the way to go. Still open to suggestions from Nikon people

don't get it if you can't use the autofocus!

Get the 35mm 1.8 instead!  It's a much better focal length for indoors on that camera too.

That 35 is a lot different than the 50.  If you use the 35, you're going to have to get up in your subject's personal space to shoot. Still, you're not going to get near the same result as with a 50.
