Update: I'm still at home

Still having contractions but they vary from 4 minutes, 5, 7, 10 even apart. They are getting more painful though. DH is going to be home in about an hour and we will decide what to do then.

Re: Update: I'm still at home

  • If you guys are still questioning what to do later on, don't be afraid to call your doctor and see what they think. That is what I ended up doing after 21 hours of intense contractions. Really I was just too tired and wanted someone else to do the thinking for me! Good luck!!

  • Yay!!!

    Here's just a few suggestions:
-Go for a short walk with DH (it can help speed labor up)
-when you are havign a contraction, have DH watch you and see where you tense up (shoulders, face, etc...) then during your next contraction have him put gentle pressure on that point or just touch it (ie: if you are scrunching your face, have him touch your forehead) and say "relax" or "breathe"-it really worked for me.
-put rice in a tube sock and warm it up, the put it on your lower back or around your neck, it can help you relax
    -try a warm bath

And don't forget, if they hurt, you can moan through them. Deep moaning (while I know it can sound crazy and caveman-esque) can help with visualization, relaxation, and can be a natural pain reliever.

    Good luck!

  • Warm water running on your back is nice too.  I took a couple showers when I was in labor.  To get the contractions going a little more (I'm assuming that is what you are wanting) try some nipple stimulation.  There are also pressure points on your hands and feet.

I know that the moaning sounds weird, but on day 3, after so many hours, it is quite literally the only thing that helped me. I found too that laying down made it worse because I wasn't really able to do anything to help myself, Ironically enough for me the most comfortable contraction I had on that last day was when I was sitting up getting my epidural haha... I'm not sure about that for other people though.
