I have several finished quilt tops and finally got a free motion quilting foot, and I spent a long time today quilting one of the tops. I definitely learned a lot - I am a little impatient so my stitch length is inconsistent, and I need to be better at planning where to stitch. I definitely ended up making it loopy vs. regular stippling as I had to cross my stitches. I bunched up the fabric really badly once and had to pick out the quilting stitches from a whole 8 inch block. Yikes! Then I bunched up the fabric minorly a few other times - not badly enough to grab the seam ripper, but it's noticeable to me. Luckily this project is for my son, so he'll love it anyway :-)
And I was very excited - I quilted his name into one of the blocks! It looks really cute.
I just need to finish up around the edges and bind and this will be done! It's been on the "to be quilted" pile since I was on maternity leave and LO is now almost 9 months old.
I will post pics when I finish.
Re: Just finished FMQing for the first time!
Yay! Congrats on your newly learned skill!
The stitch length is really hard to do at first- as is keeping the quilting from crossing itself, but keep on doing it and your skill will get even better with time!
Heck, I've been doing it for months and the last quilt I did I still crossed myself twice (no one else will ever know, but it ticks me off).
I'm excited to see your pics!
Stand up for something you believe in.
