I'm really sorry for the pain.  I have a really hard time with death and am very empathetic so even when I'm not close to the person who passes away, if I know someone affected, it's really hard for me.

I'll be praying for you during this time.  If you need to let off some steam tomorrow, take a drive down to Carmel and I'll treat you to lunch after work.

Thanks girls. It was a tough weekend, but I went to church locally at the time his service was happening on the east coast, and i lit a candle for him. I am not terribly religious, but  did feel like doing that was my way of saying goodbye and getting some closure. I only hope his family (including my tends-to-be-self-destructive ex) can do the same in their own time.
