I just bought a few African Violets and I have no idea what I should look for in a planter. Right now they're in the cheap plastic ones they came in, I'd like to get something a bit more permanent. How bad (and why) is it to water from the top? I was thinking of using Ivy bowls as pots since they're cheap and I could decorate them cutely until I learned that they need to be watered from the bottom. I don't care too much about style as I'll probably spray paint anything I get white, I just want something that will work and something that's cheap. Any links would be greatly appreciated. I was looking on HD's site and gave up because it was too overwhelming not knowing what I should get. TIA.
Re: Can someone help me find a pot for my violets?
Violets don't like leaves to stay wet, so watering from the bottom is the best (they also don't like wet roots either, though). I had a violet in a normal pot, and was just careful not to get the leaves wet when watering.
Here is a link for a special violet pot (just google "violet pot" for more) but you really don't need one.

I know you want white, but I have found that my violets do better in clay pots than they do in glazed. I believe the clay works well because it retains moisture around the soil better.
Watering from the bottom also prevents over watering. Violets hate super wet or over watered soil. Clay pots also soak up tray water better.
