How long is thawed chicken good for in the fridge?

I thawed it on Tuesday but forgot about it.  I'm really hesitant to use it but I hate throwing a $7 pack of chicken away.

Yeah, I wouldn't use it after 2 days, 3 at MOST.

That sucks, I hate when I do that. It is so wasteful & I feel like I am literally throwing money away.

I use the smell test.  Raw chicken doesn't usually have a smell at all, so if I can smell anything, it gets tossed.

Ugh, sick.  Yesterday I pulled a package of chicken out of the fridge - it had been in there a week, but the sell by date was yesterday.  The grocery store bag it was in smelled gross, so I asked DH what I should do.  He was all "well you have to open it, rinse the chicken off, and then smell it".  Mistake!  It was like rotten eggs, rotten corpses and rotten wtf else.  I was dry-heaving over the sink!  I think I'll be following the 3-day max rule from here on out!  But yeah, it made me sad to throw it away.
