What goes good with chili (and beef stew w/dumplings)?
Dh decided he wants to make his dad's chili recipe for Ian's baptism. So I am looking for side dishes to go with chili.
Also, what type of bread or rolls would be good?
Re: Chili side dishes?
I always make cornbread with chili. Cinnamon rolls are a favorite too.
If you're looking for one roll to go with both I'd do a popover or yeast roll. Those would be better with beef stew but still good with chili.
Oh! Garlic cheddar biscuits would be delicious as well!
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
We always used to do cornbread, but last year we tried the Rhodes cinnamon rolls and everyone liked that better, so that's our new combo.
If we're feeding a group (such as DH's fam, which is the norm), we also do the extras - cheese, sour cream, fritos (weird to me, but the boys like them), saltines, extra peppers, etc.
Great idea!
Corn bread, beer bread, cinnamon rolls and grilled cheese are what I think of when I think chili!
We do chili and soups for Christmas Eve each year. Besides the things that have already been mentioned, we also do a couple of kinds of pinwheel rollups. Usually one with hummus, turkey and cheese and then one that is a little spicy. We also usually do a cheese dip with sausage and then a 7-layer taco dip.
YES! My BIL does this and it is so good! All of the above and Frito's. They also serve a hard roll on the side- like Panera.
Thanks, now I want some
