Is your new lens automatic? I love the results of my 50mm lens, but hate that it is manual! (And means I only get 2 out of 4 good pictures since I am still learning.)

Yes, it's automatic. However, I'm finding that I need to "set" the focus a lot more in the viewfinder, as it has trouble distinguising what I'm wanting to focus. Not a big deal, and far easier than a true manual!

You'll find the the older/more active Eli gets, the harder it'll be to use manual focus. I have a 50mm that I love, but I rarely use it because it's nearly impossible to get an in-focus picture of Brody.

I hate that I a super expensive lens that I rarely use for just that reason! I think I am going to start blogging again and it will be good for food pictures at least.

That's very similiar to mine -- I have the D3000, which doesn't have video. I believe Amber and Kara (maybe??) also have the D3000, and I know Paige has the D5000 which has video capabilities. All are very very similiar in features and technical aspects, so I imagine that all of us could help you out! Yay for getting a DSLR!!

Yay! good to know that I have people to ask for help!! I am excited to take better photos - our P&S is not bad, but I think we will notice the quality difference with the DSLR  for baby photos...then it sounds like we will have to upgrade to a different lens once LO starts moving around more :-)

Ana and I both have the D3000; Kara has a Canon! They are all pretty much the same, so I'm sure we could all help out.
