Traveling to San Fransico
Has anyone been there? A good area/place to stay? What about Fisherman's Warf? We are still going to take an early flight on Tuesday and a late flight back on Wednesday.
Our plans were to go to Las Angeles for a day, but my friend's husband decided that he didn't want to go there. No problem with me. I haven't ever been to California so anywhere we go is new to me.

Re: Traveling to San Fransico
I've only ever stayed in Union Square, but I'm not sure there's a bad area to stay in San Fran. Union Square was close to a lot of shops and restaurants, but it's far from the Warf. It's really easy to get around on the Trolly system though. I know there are many hotels down by the Warf and if you're only going to be there for a short times, it would probably be easiest to stay down there. The Warf can be a bit touristy, but you definitely need to go down there to check out the seals and the awesome view of Alcatraz.
Will you have a car? If you do, there are awesome views of the city as well as a really cute town called Sausalito just on the other side of the Golden Gate.
We had a really good dinner (amazingly fresh crab) at McCorrmicks & Kuleto's. It was pricey, but so good! It's over by Ghirardelli Square.
I'm so jealous, I'm obsessed with that city.
I think I'm misunderstanding. You're going to CA for one night? Or is that one week? If it's a night, I have no idea. If it's a week, I went all over northern California with my parents and sister the summer before I started college and here are some of the fun things we did in and around SF (most involve some driving):
Alcatraz
Pebble Beach horseback riding (visited Monterey and Carmel too - I think we stayed in Monterey)
Lake Tahoe
Yosemite
Napa Valley/Sonoma (not so fun for 17yo LB, but would be amazing now)
Muir Woods
I can't remember any specific places we stayed or ate at because it was so long ago. The travel board or the Northern CA local board might not be a bad place to ask for recs.
Thanks! I can't wait to hear others talk about the city. We won't have a car so we will have to rely on the transit system. I will have to write down McCorrmicks & Kuleto's. Sounds like there will be plenty to do in just a short amount of time. I will have to prioritize.
Exciting!
It is just for a night. We are going to Tacoma/Seattle for a week and we are just going to hop a plan for a night.
Thanks LB, I will ask them as well.
Alcatraz is fun! It's really popular though so you have to get tickets ahead of time. The ferry boat ride to Alcatraz has nice views for pictures. Ghiradelli Square can be fun to walk around.
I'm not much help but when I went (like 5 years ago) we went to Fisherman's Wharf. It was raining and slightly miserable but there were a lot of places to walk around. Dynamo Donuts is supposed to be good, I haven't been though.
We stayed in San Jose, which if I remember wasn't too far of a drive away and there were a lot of cool things to see, like the eBay building (we took the trolly and it was fun).
