Maurika

WTG on the 6 pounds, that's great.  The Paleo has always intrigued me, but I don't  think I could ever do it.  SB is the closest thing to it, that I could find and still manage to do.

How do you like it? Is it really hard to manage?

Re: Maurika

  • Thanks!! Congrats to you on losing 6 pounds as well. Honestly, it is difficult to manage because everything that you're used to eating, you can no longer eat which is the main reason we're not following it strictly 100%. We just can't cut out ALL grains, sugars, carbs and etc. We still will eat pasta once every other week, drink hot chocolate, drink a soda once a week and etc. We only use Paleo diet as a guide to cut down everything, and that really is working for us. I read everydaypaleo blog (I forgot the exact website, but if you google it it'll be like the first search option), and it's really helpful and trying to pinpoint different things to eat. I'm still doing research on it all the time because it's a life change. Also most people that I read about online aren't following it 100%, they're doing like 80%. It basically boils down to doing what's best for you and your family.

We went grocery shopping last Thursday, and we went to Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Safeway. I found myself looking at the back of every box that I picked up to put in my cart and had to put about 90% of the things back. That's the hard part. It seems like everything has carbs and sugar in it! Even sugarless stuff has sugar in it. Most of everything we can eat has to be prepared which also can be hard because you can't just pop a chip or cookie in your mouth when you want a snack. Most of the time you will have to cut up some celery, carrots, slice an orange or eat some unsalted peanuts which isn't bad but it's never what I have a taste for at the time. We've been good at walking away from the "bad" stuff.

Overall, it takes patience, preparation, and motivation. If it weren't for DH doing it with me, I would've quit by now. It gets hard sometimes, and I remember getting fustrated at the grocery store when I couldn't decide which "healthy" snacks I want, but it's so worth it. Sorry, I didn't mean for this to turn into a book. But, if you have any more questions, I'll be happy to help.

  • Thanks, I will check out the blog and see what they have to say.  I really like the idea of it.

The SB was hard for me too, but it gets a little easier everyday.  I do the same thing picking up and looking at everything I buy now, and I've been shipping at Whole Foods and TJs and a local farm that has fruits, veggies and some free range chickens, it's a little easier.
