Hunting themed honey-do

Ok, let me start by saying I live in South Louisiana where everyone owns camo. My DH will be his best friend's best man in March, so we are throwing his honey-do, and the groom wants to do a hunting theme. He was saying the other night that he wants to get everyone to dress in camo. I have 2 questions about this:

1. How redneck does that sound (and I am a redneck, so I am not knocking anyone)? lol

2. How on earth would I word that on the invitation?

I would also appreciate any ideas you might have that I can incorporate into this shower.

Re: Hunting themed honey-do

  • First, is a honey-do a bachelor party?  For me, it's a to-do list of husband chores.

Lots (maybe all) of the men in DH's circle have gone 4 wheeling or fishing or hunting for their bachelor parties.  Wearing camo would be perfectly fine.  Wearing camo just to a party...that's a little odd.  What type of event are you actually planning?

Oh. A honey-do shower is a shower for the groom. Like you said, it's for those little 'honey-do's'. He gets to register for guy things. Similar to a bridal shower, but for the groom.  Bachelor party is totally separate (and something I want no part in planning). But yes, this would be getting the guests to dress in camo, like a costume party.

  • I think that it is ok to set a dress code for a bachelor party, but not for a shower.

  • I am not a fan of asking people to dress in a certain way for any party.  Maybe instead you could find some camo bandanas and pass them out.  People could wear them and take them as a favor.  You could use them for decorations as well- put them over a white tablecloth on the food tables, make a banner with the wedding date.

Other thoughts- for invites get some camo paper, get some camo beer coozies. Hunters around here wear the bright orange also.  Maybe you could look for bright orange napkins, cups, etc as a countrepoint.

  • i also thought this was a list of something the husband was supposed to do. i learned something today and couldn't be happier about it.

I also like the idea (especially since men are involved) of finding something you can pass out for everybody to put on - or i love the koozies idea! who doesn't love those - plus they could qualify as the decoration AND the favors!

    Agreed.

  • I don't think it's terrible to tell people it has a camo theme and mention they might want to wear camo--I would dictate that they wear it but the suggestion isn't off-putting, especially since most of the men probably have it in their wardrobe already.

But, I LOVE the idea of getting koozies or bandanas or other ways to incorporate it without a dress code.
