Floor cleaner without chemicals

Hey everyone ! I am looking for a home-made floor cleaner without chemicals. We always used the "wet swiffer" pads and noticed the other day that it says it's bad for animals... and we have two dogs. So my husband started using water/vinegar. But I can't stand the smell of vinegar !!! Anyone have any non-toxic cleaners ?

We purchased a "green" cleaner at the store however it does not work !!!

Re: Floor cleaner without chemicals

  • Is it possible you are using too much vinegar? After your floors dry you should not be able to smell the vinegar at all.

  • We have shark steam mop, and it works great. It doesn't use chemicals, just water.

  • We use a steam mop.

  • If you don't have a steam mop, I find that very, very lightly soapy water works pretty well on wood floors. I use regular "eco friendly" dish soap. I'm thinking Dr. Bronner's would work as well.

We do have the Shark Steam mop. But sometimes when it's just a small area needing cleaning or I am in a rush I don't use the steamer so I try and use some sort of solution. Maybe he does put too much vinegar... will have to look into that.

     Thanks for the tips :)

When it's just a small area we use diluted dr. b's and hot water on a rag.  We have foaming soap pumps, so i get the rag wet with hot water, add a couple squirts from the soap pump (which is just water and dr. b's) and give it a scrub.  If it needs disinfecting, then i'd use vinegar (or diluted hydrogen peroxide, if necessary).

  • I just use my steam cleaner (floors are sealed). No cleaner required!
  • for small areas, I have a water/vinegar (equal parts) in a spray bottle, then I 'mop' it up with my dry swiffer with a microfiber cloth on it instead of the dry swiffer thing.   I call this my homemade swiffer wetjet.  ;)
