Help for hubby

I don't know if any of you ladies or your husbands might be able to help, but we've tried all other avenues and thought I'd try this as well.

Zach finishes up his last 4 classes this December at Purdue. He'll have his Bachelors in Aeronautical/Astronautical engineering. We've had a deuce of a time trying to find a job for him, even with help from family members and some friends, mainly because in order to get into the field, the majority of employers want someone with experience. Unfortunately, Purdue (in it's infinite wisdom) just educates it's students in this degree field and boots them out without any kind of internship. It's gotten to the point where we've realized he'll need to possibly get a job in the way lower ranks and work his way up. Location doesn't matter - we'll move anywhere, especially since once I have my MLS, I can work just about anywhere.

If you hear of anything through a grapevine or anything that may help him get on somewhere, I'd greatly appreciate it. You can get a hold of me here or chelsieschuette at gmail dot com.

 Thank you so much!

Re: Help for hubby

  • I'm sure he's already tried this, but just thought I'd clicky it just in case.

  • I know there's someone on here who works for NASA, but I forget who? Anyhow maybe she could help?
  • Tisha - If he's tried that one, he forgot to tell me. Thank you!

Becca - I wasn't aware we had a NASA employee! Here's hoping she sees the thread and can help. If you think of who it is, could you let me know, please?

    Thanks ladies!

  • Thank you. I really appreciate that. I really appreciate all your help and good wishes!
  • Let's here it for the rocket scientists!!!!  DH is an Aerospace Technologist and he read your post over my shoulder and ripped the laptop out of my hands to put in this info- haha.  Here's what he had to say:

If he wants to go back to school for a masters or phd, look into these two programs:
    U/GSRP - http://usrp.usra.edu/

    OCT Fellowship
    http://www.nasa.gov/offices/oct/home/index.html

NASA's new programs will all focus on technology development and basic sciences.  But here is what each Center is currently (or will be) looking for:

Wallops Flight Facility - Cryogenics storage and transfer, solid propulsion, sounding rockets, telemetry

Marshall Space Flight Center will be looking for experts in Propulsion (even though they are laying off thousands, they are mostly project management)

Stennis Space Center will have open positions under the Chief Technologist for technology development.

Michoud Assembly Facility will need engineers for production work.

With no experience, you may have better luck with the contractors, here are some that he has worked with/for:

Jacobs Technology: Tullahoma, TN - AEDC, Stennis Space Center, MS, Huntsville, AL (MSFC), Michoud, LA (MAF)

Pratt Whitney Rocketdyne - Stennis Space Center, Canoga Park, CA

Lockheed Martin - Specific for recent college grads: http://www.lockheedmartinjobs.com/college.asp

    ERC Incorporated - http://www.erc-incorporated.com/

Boeing will be hiring lots of young engineers as soon as they start contract production

Next up are the smaller contractors who handle single projects under the Small Business initiatives:

    SBIR/STTR Companies
    http://sbir.gsfc.nasa.gov/SBIR/SBIR.html

Also, keep an eye out for the private aerospace firms, they will be hiring soon as well. They all have sites in really remote places, but they pay well: Space-X, Blue Origin, Aerojet, Orbital

     Good Luck!

Let me know if you have any other questions!  (Sorry so long!)
