Know of any good fall resort specials??

I have some time off unexpectedly and DH, DS (3yo) and I are looking to head out of town next week. It will be mid-week so that will help with rates. We almost always stay at Grand View Lodge when we go out of town, but have never stayed at any of the Lake Superior resorts so are looking there or elsewhere. We LOVE Grandview but they aren't running any specials next week.

I've researched about 12 different resorts and the cheapest is a ($79) queen room at Trappers Landing in Walker. Nice room but it would be extremely tight with a 3yo who goes to bed at 7 pm. I found Queen rooms under $100 at Larsmont Cottages and Grand Superior. The cheapest 1 bedroom option (ideal so we can put DS to bed and still be up watching a movie) is Caribou Highlands at $134. We want to stay under $150. Does anyone have any ideas, or know of any fall specials out there?  I can't find anything else at this price and just want to hit all our bases before making a decision. Or if you've stayed at Caribou, did you like it?

Thanks!

  • We've stayed at Grand Superior before and liked it. They have a bonfire pit on the beach and stuff to make smores. We were in the lodge rooms and they were clean and comfortable. I seem to remember there being a fridge and microwave, too.

Have you checked the exploreminnesota.com website? They always have a section with deals.

If you head up towards Lutsen, I highly recommend hiking Oberg Mountain. It's a 2 miles hike and we saw other parents with young children. The views are stunning when the leaves are changing.

  • Cragun's has some really good spa packages that include lodging. My mom and I are going in a couple weeks.
  • Thanks ladies- my cheapness won out. We found a great deal at Chase on the Lake in Walker for a 1 bedroom suite in the main lodge. Some day I hope to make it to the North Shore!
  • We had a horrible experience with a boat rental at Chase on the Lake.  I liked the room, but I will never go back there after what we went through.
