Daycare recs please!

We're so behind on this - and obviously I can't rely on DH to do anything. If I want something done, I have to do it myself. It's getting ridiculous...

Anyway, venting aside, can anyone give recs for daycares in the West Toledo area please? I live/work near Westgate, so hoping not to go to far from there.

I'm aware of Apple Tree at UT, and DH is alumni so there's that option, but I don't know much about it. I thought I'd ask before going on that YWCA site for anything. Any direction is definitely much appreciated! THANK YOU!!

Re: Daycare recs please!

  • We love Love n Learn (Secor across from Bartz).  Our runner up choice was Toddler Tech (on Royer next to the mall).  One of big things for us is that staff of the infant rooms at both have been there for years with lots of experience with the babies rather than young girls fresh out of school.  Both are step up to quality.  I think Jill uses the one on Notre Dame's campus, but can't right now remember what the heck it's called.  Definitely check some out and have questions ready before hand.

  • I don't know much about centers in that area, but I have heard great things about Apple Tree.  I have heard it is pretty expensive though.

This page will help you search Step Up to Quality centers in the area.  Three stars is the highest a center can get.  I would look for a center with two to three stars.  Good luck!

  • Sorry about the post and run yesterday!

Thanks for the recs - I'll definitely check them out this week and get going on this! Great link for the Step Up centers. I'm forwarding all this info to myself :)  I tried asking MIL about Apple Tree since she works there, but she didn't seem to know anything about it. There is discount for UT alumni, but it will still end up being one of my paychecks I'm sure. The bank account drain begins, lol!

  • Maria Child Care by Notre Dame

Apple Tree is supposed to be awesome.

I think Maria and Apple Tree are probably priced about the same.

Really? I looked at Apple Tree's fees, and was going to request info from Maria. Maybe they offer a discount to alumni? That would be awesome! (crossing fingers)

  • Holy hell!  I never checked this place out (never really heard of it until now) and I will no longer complain about what we pay!

  • I don't think Maria is quite as pricey as Apple Tree, but it isn't the cheapest place either.  My cousin uses Maria and I believe she pays slightly over $200 a week.

  • We pay under $200 a week.  Both places we  really liked were not too different in price.  And we thought these ones were on the expensive side (I suffered a little sticker shock when learned what these places can cost).  What's sad is the kinda dumpy place we looked at wasn't much less than the one we went with.

  • Cost of daycare is one of the reasons I stayed at home.  For almost all the money I made to pay for a daycare, it just wasn't worth it for us.

  • I used to work for Children's Discovery Center (with Leigh!) when I still lived in Toledo and absolutely loved it there.  I too have never heard of Apple Tree.  Definitely look into Step Up to Quality ratings, very important and of course a great indicator of quality.  To obtain and MAINTAIN those ratings require a lot of attention to details and work for a center, so those ratings are very meaningful.
