Party invite (kids) WWYD?

Okay so thing have been going well here on my end.  I haven't update on my situation b/c i've been so busy, but things over the year have changed for the better with dh and I and we are now moving forward with positive changes...we are building a house!!!

Anyway he's been prepping the land for the past few months and the neighbors next to our new land have talked with him, been helpful in letting him get access to the land from thier driveway etc.  I've met them and their 2 kids once when the kids and I were over.   They have 2 kids the exact same age as our kids!

Anyway we exchanged contact info last month and yesterday we got an invite in the mail addressed to A and R last name (our kids).  It was an invitation to a halloween party hosted by their children.

Sooooo the kids have never actually been invited to a party (that I can remember) What do you think? Go or no?  We don't really know them but they have been really nice and we will be neighbors.  Would you go?  It's from 11-2 on a saturday.  I'm not really sure how these things work either.  They don't expect us to just leave the kids right? It was addressed to our 2 kids and hosted by "their kids"  I just don't know!!!  A says well I guess we should go, and he thinks they meant for us to stay...

What do you guys think?

Re: Party invite (kids) WWYD?

  • since these are going to be your new neighbors i'd say definitely go. and if you'rr curious if you should stay just ask

  • I would def. want to stay, I would not feel comfortable leaving them basically with strangers...I just don't know how to ask so it doesn't sound weird that i'm asking!
  • For sure go!! These people are probably one day going to be your "best" friends. There will probably be many evenings when you guys will be hanging out, having cookouts etc. Your kids will grow up together etc. Break the ice now and over the course of building of your home. :) I think they are too young anyway to be left alone so it probably wouldn't be weird to stay. Tell her you will help etc. Have fun & congrats on the new house!! What area are you moving to?
  • What Kel said. :-) We have neighbors who have a 15mth old and she and A LOVE each other. It is such a wonderful thing to have neighbors with kids the same age.
  • I agree w/everyone else.  Definitely go.  If other parents aren't stayng maybe you can just say that since your kids really don't know anyone you'd feel comfortable staying for them.

  • Glad to hear things are going well :)

Ditto pp, go to the party! I don't think it's strange of you to stay; it will give you a chance to socialize with the parents and their kids, and maybe other parents that might live close too. Have a good time and let us know how it went!

  • I agree, definently go! I would want to stay though, until you get to know them a little better. It sounds like a great opportunity to break the ice.
  • Okay we are going and staying!  We bought land in 2008 in bedford just over the oh/mi line, 2.5 acres.  What's nice is that here is a nice wooded lot beteewn us too!  I like neighbors but not right on top of eachother.

This is our likely plan in about 5 years.  I hope.
