Sometimes I hate cell phones

Am I the only one who likes cell phones to be turned off, or at least not have to accept calls, when I'm on a getaway trip? We went to the coast Sunday and Monday nights for our anniversary and dh's friend kept texting constantly. To be fair, dh was responding (it was work related) and when it came time for our nice romantic dinner he turned the phone off (but don't you think if you knew your friend was celebrating his anniversary at the coast, you'd back it off a bit?). Dh's mom called at 10 a.m. this morning while we were still lounging in bed the hotel. And the phones have been ringing off the hook since we got home. (Someone from an "unavailable" number has been calling me for days.) If we're still off work I still consider it vacation. Go away, people!

Ugh, I know I'm overreacting about some of this, but I do enjoy getting away from reality.

Re: Sometimes I hate cell phones

  • I'm the same way, though thankfully our family members are pretty good about leaving us alone while we're on vacation. Or we turn stuff off/don't answer.
  • You could also use a little trick I sometimes use at work: I set my vacation messages (on email and phone) to say I'll be back in the office one day after I'm actually back. That way, I have a day to catch up on messages/work stuff before I'm bombarded with crap again.
  • Frustrating!

I used to be really good about staying away from cell phones and computers on vacation. Not sure what happened, but I'm not very good at disconnecting anymore. That will be my goal in a few weeks when I'm on vacation!

  • Ugh, MIL just blew up our cell phones, calling repeatedly. To be fair, she did need something. Though you think if your son didn't return your first two phone calls today while he's on his anniversary trip it was because he didn't want to call you back? Or is the day you drive back fair game? As Abvernon would say, le sigh.

Yup, I guess we are, too. Although our HM is infamous for IL not leaving us alone! And that was in person, not on the phone. So much worse.

Your honeymoon? In person? How on earth did that happen? Do tell.

IL arranged for us to use their timeshare in Tahoe for our HM. We couldn't afford to turn it down esp. since DH had just recovered from surgery and we couldn't travel far or for a prolonged period. But they would stay in the rooms for the first few days of the week they booked while we were in Fresno for my HS BFF's Calif. wedding reception (she lives in San Antonio now and had their ceremony there a few weeks earlier). So we came to Tahoe for the end of the week. We would only be there for 3 days. They were supposed to leave when we came. But when we got there, they wouldn't leave! We ended up with only a day and half without them around.
  • Oh yes, that calls for a do-over. Did you ever get one?

Yeah, our 1st anniversary. They actually got us a reservation at Victorian Inn in Monterey. I don't know if it was because they felt bad about what happened on our HM or not. But it's funny because I kind of think of our 1st anniversary as our HM instead of our actual HM.
