Mid Week Poll:

What is something that you did with your family when you were younger that you don't necessarily do now and you miss? I'm big into reminiscing lately and dunno if its because I"m pregnant and thinking of all the things we did when I was younger or what it is?!?!

Mine: When my (maternal) grandpa was still alive (Died July 05) we used to do family gatherings monthly for birthdays and for every holiday. It would be nothing but potluck meals....When my grandpa died there were things being fought over and since then its kinda torn the family apart. I feel like I don't know some of my cousins anymore since this as we NEVER get together as a family anymore....BOO!  I know its harder now that everyone is married or nearly married and having kiddos however I miss the closeness we all had! I do keep in close contact with a few cousins and most of my aunt and uncles but not as much as I want/should!

Re: Mid Week Poll:

  • We used to go camping all the time in Yankton.  Sometimes it was just me and my parents but other family would come or we'd go with friends.  It was so fun.  I love camping...waking up and it being cold, sitting around the fire, going swimming/biking/etc without a care in the world.  Honestly, things were simpler then.

  • 1.When I was young- up until about 16 we went to Cape Cod every summer. My grandparents had owned some beach houses and my parents and siblings and aunts and uncles and cousins would all meet there for one week over the summer. They are some of my favorite memories. After my grandma died, my aunt and uncle sold the beach houses so we didn't go anymore.

We are trying to re-create this now with my siblings and their kids and go to the Outer Banks every year. Luckily, my dad is a driving force behind :) I hope they are some of my kids favorite memories.

Something silly is that when my dad and I were in the car he would quiz me on all the different college and MLB names and mascots. I look forward to one of my kids being interested enough in it to do the same :)

  • As a family, every summer I would go to Cleveland for the month of June then my parents would join us in July and we would then travel the US.  I miss these trips and wish my family could do this but it is not as easy when you are a blended family and only have so much parental vacation.  We do always go to the family lake house and that is fun but I miss traveling the US.
  • Lake of the Ozarks- every summer.  I have great memories of feeding the ducks off the deck, boating, going to this little floating restaraunt, looking for cute boys with my same age girl cousins.

Also, soup in bread bowls on Christmas Eve:)

We did get back to the Ozarks two summers ago, and I'm pushing my parents to help plan something for this coming summer since both my brother and SIL wil be back from their deployments...
