SA Wednesday

Re: SA Wednesday

  • So I'm planning my friend's big 30th birthday party, and, like, nobody is able to come. She invited 30 people, and so far we only have 8-10 coming. And like 8 for sure not coming. Last year, her birthday was the day of my wedding, she deserves a big celebration this year. :(

But on a good note, I have a pork shoulder in the smoker for kalua pork, and I cannot wait to eat it.

If you guys are realllly bored, you can read the trip report I wrote on Trip Advisor about our trip to Vegas here:  http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g45963-i10-k4857664-Vegas_Newbies_TR_9_29_10_3-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html

Wow your trip report is so detailed and easy to read.  I've never been to Vegas and I still enjoyed reading it.  :)

Aww, thanks!  We has so much fun.  I already want to go back and stay at the Wynn and see Le Reve and eat at the Venetian and Eiffel Tower--it's already planned!

Awww, Anna, that's too bad.  But 10+ people is still a nice party.  I hope she's not disappointed.

I don't think I did anything for my 30th birthday--I don't remember it at all.  I remember 21, 35 and 40, but not that one.

  • Disclaimer : Totally random

Yesterday I met with a friend at Marquee at HP Village for drinks after work, the poeple at the next table turned out to know my friend so we said hi and the usual introductions.  These uber chic ladies had such a uniform look!! All CL peep toe pumps, same accessories that included a wedding ring with a 3 carat diamond, one or two Hermes bracelets, with one or two Cartier bracelets, same Cartier Ballon Bleu watch! It was a funny scene!

  • I hate Metro PCS.Every time I get a new phone from Metro PC of Crap, they work great the first 2 months, then after that, they start having problems. I go through a new phone at least once a year, if not twice.  DH and I are only using them because at every other cell phone provider we have to put down a $500 or more deposit, plus buy the phones. I'm glad he has a company phone with AT&T, and that he doesnt have to pay for it,as much as I dont like having to pay $500 or more for new services/phones, we might need to do it. we need to find another service provider asap. This is getting really ridiculous.

OMG STEPHIE! I'm only half way through but had to come back and tell you that I am rolling about Ben stuffing the pork in his pockets!!

ETA: "So with pork in our pockets, we were off to the Chandelier Bar." I AM DYING!

  • Since it's SA Wednesday I thought I'd stop in to say hi. So, "Hi!"

Things on my end have been ridiculously busy and I don't expect to get any easier. I miss you gals and hopefully will see you at next month's book club!

  • Stephie, if your current job ever doesn't pan out, you should become a travel agent.  Seriously - you put so much thought into every piece of your trip!  I really enjoyed reading your review, and I'd hire you to plan a trip for me Smile

I just got back from lunch, and I already have the sleepies.  Does anyone else get ridiculously sleepy after lunch, regardless of what you ate and how much sleep you got the night before?  Because I'm seriously considering crawling under my desk for a nap.  Ok, not really, but in my head I'm picturing it, and it'd be wonderful.

Every day!  I blame it on the pregnancy but to be honest I was like this before.  I just sleep at my desk.  Everyone here knows I do it and the boss said it would be more sleep for me to sleep at my desk during my "break" then walk to the Wellness Room in another building.  The only requirement is no snoring.  My 15 min break Monday turned into a 30 min nap.  Oops.  But I felt much better after!

  • Stephie - Thanks, there are still several people I haven't heard from, so hopefully it'll be more like 12-15. I think that's a good crowd, I just want her to have a great birthday.

Leslie (or anyone else) - I have a baking question. I want to make chocolate cupcakes with a mini milky way in the middle, have you tried this? Does it work?

ETA: Or would it be better to chop them up and mix them into the batter?

You are fortunate to have an understanding boss.

There were five people at my old Fortune 500 company office who got fired for sleeping on the job during the three years I was there. Then at the smaller architecture firm I worked at before going back to school there were two people who slept in their cars at lunch, one of which later got fired for taking naps at the front desk. I was unaware this was such a prevalent issue.

I just found out the Monte Carlo heats their pool year-round, so we can swim while we are there in November. Sweet.

I would not recommend chopping them into the batter mainly because I have found that people really don't like little chunkies in their cupcakes but a big center chunky is okay...yes chunkies is a scientific word.

I haven't tried it, but the mini bar should work fine in the center. Fill the cupcake liner partially and then put the MW in, then fill over it. If you drop the candy in once they are filled the cupcakes will likely fall and not be very pretty or texturally pleasing.

  • Leslie - I am adding "chunkies" and "texturally pleasing" to my baking vocabulary. :)

This always happens to me!  I am always so sleepy in the afternoons :-(

I am frustrated that we are already having issues just starting to TTC.  It is so frustrating :-(

This was my main concern. Thanks for the tips! I made three different cupcakes for my mom's Cinco de mayo party, and she asked me to make some for her Halloween party. So I'm doing Apple cupcakes with salted caramel frosting, Pumpkin with maple cream cheese frosting, Chocolate with chocolate frosting (with the chunkies lol) and Vanilla with vanilla frosting (colored and piped to look like candy corn)

  • I hope everyone's having a great week!  Work has been super busy with this project so I've done more lurking.  I'm not going to be able to make it to the book club, hopefully next month.

Leslie - I'll be interested to see how the mirror project turns out!

  • If you are pregnant with triplets and the doctor tells you he needs you to gain 65-75 more pounds before you deliver, you need to do that. You don't need to worry about how "bad you are going to look" nor do you need to come to FB and fish for compliments about how beautiful you will still be.

I dislike FB Top Stories. I have literally marked this girl as "Not a Top Story" three times and yet, there she is each time she posts. I assume it's because we have so many mutal friends and they post comments to her triggering the alogorithm or something.

Leslie - I am adding "chunkies" and "texturally pleasing" to my baking vocabulary. :)

Both of these are big food issues for me in general, not just with baking... definitely important words to add to the vocabulary.  Now, when BIL, who always insists on cooking things that are outside of my normal preferences, asks why I don't like something, I can tell him without hesitation, "I don't like chunkies in my food - I like it to be texturally pleasing.  Thanks though."  And if he has any questions, I can just tell him that the queen of the interwebz says they're legitimate food concerns, so he has to bow down and recognize!

  • Hi Renee ::waves::.

I'm dying over here over texturally pleasing.

And I am sleepy, too.  We should be given a 30 minute lunch followed by an hour nap time each day.

  • I am so glad you all enjoy the words "chunkies" and "texturally pleasing." I live with the King of avoiding chunkies and needing things to be texturally pleasing during meal times so it is a concept I am very familiar with.

Randall is actually the first person I heard use chunkies when describing food. He doesn't like Rotel because of the chunkies (also known as tomatoes and green peppers), he was disappointed when Zataran's changed their jambalaya rice recipe because it "has too many chunkies now." When I made chocolate cupcakes with large chips instead of mini chips, they were texturally displeasing because he felt like the "chunkies were too big."

    This is my life. :P

  • Hee, thanks guys!  I love planning and then writing about it afterwards.  Helps me to remember it better.

I am perpetually sleepy.  It has nothing to do with lunch.

Well you would hate cooking for me, too.  I can deal with some chunkies, but a lot of chunkies... I can't do it.  Like if a hot sauce has too many chunkies, I will just dip my chip in it for the sauce, but I won't scoop up any of the chunks.

This is one of my main fears at the moment. I mean, we're not TTC or anything as it is, but when we are ready, i dont want it to be a ridiculously long process.

  • The best things in life are chunky.

Chocolate Chunk, Cookie Dough Chunks, Chunks in Rotel and Salsa.  Chunks in rainbow chip frosting.  Chunks of cookies in my ice cream.....I could go on!

Anyone who has a "chunk phobia" is crazy!!

It just sucks for me because like EVERYONE else is getting pregnant and not seeming to have any issues with it.
