A collection of possibly unrelated thoughts
Morning, pals.
So, today is count day for schools. It's the official day of counting students for funding. According to the postcard I got from the district:
"Ninety percentage state funding for our public schools is based on total student attendance on [today]."
That's such a weird sentence, I've had to read it a few times. I know what they're saying, but uh... is that correct grammar? You guys know I'm not very careful with grammar and spelling here. Outside of here, I slow down and reread.

Phew. I thought* my brain was getting mushy.
This is straight from the school's communication department. Oye.
Oye is right.
These late Tigers games are wearing on me. And by late I mean they last longer than 9:30 pm.
*yawn*
Ha... I know the head of that department. I used to work for him. And with that,
.
(But yeah, weird/poor grammar.)
WOW...that is pretty scary that someone in administration at a school district cannot form a comprehensible sentence to send out to every parent in the district!
OK...I have to vent about how districts say that the funding is based on total attendance of that ONE day. It technically isn't. I used to be the Attendance Clerk at an elementary school (before the library) and did the Student Count. ALL absence students, whether they have an excused or unexcused absence, have time to get back to school to be counted. Forgive my foggy brain today, but I cannot remember the exact amount of days. I remember for one it was 30 days. The only time I ever had a student not count was when the family up and moved and never came back to school. I get why the districts want all kids in class that day, it is sooo much easier to get all the proper documentation in order and submitted to the state. But it makes some parents feel bad that they are keeping their sick kids home that day from school! Vent over.
That's interesting, Amachuta. I had an automated call tell me to be on the watchout for school age kids on the street today. If I see any, I should call the action line. BOOM! You're busted!
You guys know I don't like the whole "I judge you for poor grammar" thing on the internet chatty chats... However, "professional" district-wide communication is a different story.
Is the fun part kicking DH or the emails?
WE SOLD OUR HOUSE IN FLINT!!!
Or rather, we pretty much gave it away. But the bank took the short sale so we are told that we will get a 1099 for the difference in what we owe and what it was purchased for. Which means we will likely owe a bunch in taxes this year, but at least it's over and we avoided a total foreclosure.
Congrats freeburger - sounds like a heavy weight is off of your shoulders. :-)
WOOT!
At Volcanoes National Park, there is "secret," ranger-led tour where they take you on a hike through the rain forest to an isolated lava tube (cave). They're trying to preserve the area, so the lava tube is not open to the public, and the location is not published. They only do the tour once a week, it is limited to 12 people, it books up quickly, and there is a specific window during which you can make your reservation.
And I was just able to reserve us spots on the tour!!! Score.
"isolated lava tube" is not a phrase I expected to read today.
I'm a Kent County GOP HQ and YMCA visit away from visiting at least one venue from each letter of the alphabet. Not all letters are represented with venues. I put that here instead of in the Artprize thread, because I feel like I'm talking to myself there now.
The "fun" part is trying to sell a house with my husband, who maintains that he is a sensible, logical, informed person; yet, he seems to think that the frustrations of the housing market shouldn't apply to this particular house.
In his defense, a lot (most?) people feel this way, about houses and most other things.
I'm sure it's very frustrating for you to deal with though. Hang in there and sending lots more good selling vibes your way.
HOORAY!
Sweet - that sonds amazing!
That is extremely cool.
I'm sure you're going to have a fantastic time in Hawaii!
This sounds awesome!
