My white fabric couch has a number of 'unmentionables' on it.. terrible stains from the kids that I tried my best to scrub out, but you can tell there were stains. I'm thinking of having a service come in, like Stanley Steemer or whatnot. But does anyone have any experience with this? Do they use a steam cleaner to get the stains out? Or do they just do the same kinds of things I would try (scrubbing with various chemicals).
I'm just wondering if it is worth paying a service - if they can do an awesome job steam cleaning to take care of the stains and anything else (like pet dander). Or should I just buy some other fabric cleaners and try some more scrubbing on my own. I'm seeing the services would generally be over $100, but the white couch is in bad shape. I'd be interested in hearing your experience even if it was a carpet/rug. Thanks ![]()
Re: Upholstery etc cleaning (XP)
My only experience with a service was, that while it did clean up the couch, the stains were also lightened and stuck out worse after the fact. This may have been due to the upholstery type , and I used a local service so I'm not sure if they knew what they were doing (?). It can't hurt to have a consult and see what they say.
If I had it to do over again I would've considered a slipcover as Dar mentioned- even the $ custom made ones are cheaper than a new sofa.
