If I am applying for a new job within my company...

and I have to fill out a request form to be considered, and it asks me Type of Request, would you put

1) Department transfer

or

2) Position Opening

It is in a different department, but I assume I should put Position Opening, right?

Sorry, I know this is dumb.

Re: If I am applying for a new job within my company...

  • Since it's an internal position, I assume you are talking to your current supervisor about this opportunity.  I would probably ask the supervisor which type of request this would be.

My current supervisor is out of the office until Monday.  Wah.

  • I'll just wait until Monday.  The form is due on Tuesday.

I agree with your thought that it's probably "position opening", but I also think it's a good idea to just run this by your current supervisor before submitting the request.

Every company is different, but in my prior company, if I had applied to an internal opening without my supervisor's approval/knowledge, I likely would not have been successful and my boss would have been supremely pissed at being blindsided.

I have to turn the form into him first, so there is no blindsiding that can happen at my company.

So it's really not a big deal to wait until Monday.  I was just trying to get the form filled out today.  I'm a little antsy.
