Hi everyone! I've never posted on here before, but I'm in need of a little information about PCSing. My husband and I have been married for two years and within the next year are probably PCsing to Grand Forks in ND. My first question would be, what is the whole process like? Is it a PCS move different than moving normally? (My husband and I weren't married until after he'd already been stationed at his base, so I don't know much about how that whole process went.) By that I mean, is there paper work to fill out and things like that other than my husband's actual in-processing/out-processing? Where is a good place to start with the moving and packing process? I've only ever moved from my parent's house to our house on base after getting married, so I'm not very experienced with packing in an effective, organized way. Also, if anyone is from Grand Forks or has been there, what's it like? Did you like it?
Thanks for all of your help & advice!
Re: First time PCS questions
Are you moving from a different location than your husband? Our first PCS I moved from Minnesota and he moved from Oklahoma. The military didn't cover my move per se because the orders were from Oklahoma to our current base. However, we were able to get around that since H never did a home base move. (I believe that is what he referred to it as).
I know TMO does all of it electronically now. ( http://www.move.mil/home.htm ) H had to use his account since I had trouble syncing mine.
Once you have put it all the info in online. TMO will contact you to set up a pick up and delivery time. (more like a window) (what they do is put out a bid to contractors and when they decide which one will move you they will call you with the info)
In order for me to process the move in Minnesota, I had to have a POA to sign off on all the paperwork.
HTH!
Outprocessing is time consuming, but it's not your job. He'll get checklists on vMPF and he'll be given time to get it done.
