Infant Care Sacramento-Pocket/Greenhaven

I am 37 weeks pregnant and was just hired for an amazing new job that will require me to commute to Yuba County every day when my baby will be just 6-8 weeks old. I'm tormented at the thought of leaving him so young but I have no choice. I am trying to decide where the best place to take him will be and live in the Pocket area. If anyone has any personal experience in this area with a very young child your advice would be much appreciated. The anticipation of it all is so stressful as you who have been through this well know.

 Thank you

  • I have a very good friend who does childcare from her home for 0-24 months. She is amazing and has an opening starting soon. However she is in Rosemont which is off of HWY50 and Watt.

  • Have you considered having the baby commute with you and finding care where you will be working? You'll be quite a ways away in the event of needing to pick the baby up asap (for illness, etc). Unless there is someone else local that can be there quickly I would probably have the baby commute with me.
  • I have considered finding care in Yuba County but my husband does work locally and is self employed which gives him much greater flexablity to come and go. I also have 3 sisters and my mom in town all at the ready for the most part if nessasary.
  • Sounds great but I'm afraid Rosemont would be at least an hour in traffic in the wrong direction. I'm looking for something either in the Pocket area or along the I-5 North/ 99 Corridor which is on the way to Yuba/Marysville where my job is and starts at 8am. It will be a very long day for me and my baby.
  • I definitely recommend cross-posting this to the baby board!  The link is at the top of this board.  Good luck :)

Why doesn't DH do drop off and pick up?  I wouldn't be comfortable with baby in care that many hours a day.  You're also going to have problems finding care that's that long...you'll probably need a center...but even those are usually only open from 7am-6 or 6:30pm.  You may also look for someone who will come to you.  It was such a relief not to have to wake the baby to do drop off or pick up.

Ditto about xp-ing to the baby board.  There are a lot of sacramento ladies there.

i agree, if you can find something b/t home and work that would probably be your best bet if you can't find something in the Pocket area (i used to live there too and i didn't notice a whole lot centers and given the HOAs there, i'm not sure how picky they are about people running in home daycares). try looking at Craigslist for a provider in the 3 areas.

i too have an 8am start time and an hr+ commute (east bay to marin) i was lucky and found an in-home provider that was literally ON my way to work. our days start at 6:45a out the door, by 7:15ish we're at daycare, i'm at work by 8 and i leave to her at 4pm and we're home by 5:30p.
