"I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant"

Have you seen this show? I used to think this was totally possible but now that I'm pg I just don't get it. How do you not notice 3rd tri kicks? How can they claim they were "getting their period every month"? And what about the skinny women on there once in a while with no hint of a belly? It make no sense! Thoughts?

Re: "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant"

  • I've see that show when I was home. Ive thought to myself these women are delusional. There is no way you could not know or you don't want to know, like wishing it would go away/ denial. Especially for those women who have been pregnant before. But some people don't experience pregnancy the way others do so maybe it's possible. I didn't get sick with morning sickness once when I was pregnant. So maybe if these women didn't ever get sick or ever waddle with additional baby weight, they may have never known. I guess anything possible these days, but it does make you wonder.

  • I have a friend who was in 40's when she fell pregnant. They weren't trying and had spent 6 weeks travelling around Australia (they live in the UK). She thought she had IBS, and that with going to travelling her monthly's were off. She also started a new job that had her on her feet alot so that is why is thought she was so tired. And being in her 40's, she thought she was going through the start of change of life as some women do go through it younger. Turns out though she was 24 weeks pregnant when she went to the doc because her IBS was just becoming too much for her.

Also my Mom is a skinny woman, but when she was 39 weeks pg with my baby sister (her third child) no one could tell she was pg, unless you were looking for it. She always carried small.

  • FWIW my baby doesn't kick very often.  She moves a lot, but real kicks, not so much.  So I could kind of see if you have a baby like mine you could definitely think it's gas if you don't know you're pregnant.  A lot of gas though!

What I couldn't miss is the huge baby bump!  But I guess some women really do carry small.  I could see it happening...but it must be incredibly rare.

  • I really don't get it either, you have to be super duper oblivious to your body IMO to not know!

  • Being pregnant right now, I can't imagine a woman not knowing she's pregnant, but my aunt was about 6 months pregnant before she (or we) found out.  I saw her at least once a week and couldn't tell either.  She's super super tiny, was going through a divorce at the time and working 12 hour shifts.  I think all those things contributed to her overlooking the obvious signs.

  • Good timing--BBC just ran a story about this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-15185917. It's a 44-year old who thought she was going through menopause. Awww.
