Re: AW Thursday

  • We 'pointed' part of our house last weekend (removed old mortar and replaced it) as well as fixed the broken light outside.

I got approved for 2 days off next week as well as the 2nd week off in November.  I have not had a week off since our honeymoon.  Now we just have to figure out the details.

I was going to AW that my headache that lasted 2 days is gone but it's back.

  • bummer about the headache :(...yay about the vaca :)

My AW is that I have a showing this afternoon after work to look at a 2bdrm/2 story condo :) and i'm super excited about it!

You are looking to buy, right?

  • We bought these floors last night! (Photo from website)

Opinons needed, we have this entry way to our living room. Do we leave it ceramic or do we make it wood?

yeah there's baseball fans and foot ball fans that will be crowding the streets as well as taylors fans. Not to mention i heard they were closing down the highway/exit that all three of those events are off of!

  • Tile tomorrow!!  Wahoo, and I'm going to work from home so I can see it.

Also, I installed a new thermostat in our house all by myself.   Because I'm awesome.

    Look at you go! :)

  • My friend is having a baby today.  :)

  • Yay babies and tile and thermostats and houses!

  • I just had a delicious breakfast biscuit from the little cafe in our building... good way to start the day!

Lacey, I dreamed about you last night... we were discussing in-laws, and you were saying that you had a wonderful relationship with yours, and how they really valued you as a person, and your life was just so much better with them in it.  You were very serious about everything.  The kicker?  You kept saying "her parents" and I was so baffled.

  • Leslie, I say make it all wood in your entryway.  I can see having the tile against carpet at the door because it keeps the carpet from getting dirty, but not against the wood.
  • I found Cadence's big Santa gift for this year... and what's even more exciting - Walmart offers Layaway this year!  I can make the smaller payments on it AND not have to hide it until Christmas.  :)

And if you didn't know that Santa wasn't real... I am sorry.

  • Leslie,  Those floors look gorgeous!  I would do only hardwood in that room.  I understand why people put the ceramic tile right by the front door, otherwise your carpet will have a constant mud stain.  But hardwoods you can wipe off the dirt people track in, and to me it looks so much better to have the floor all uniform.

No AW for me, just a complaint about the barista at starbucks.  Please do not give me the side eye because your cashier wrote "Michael" on my cup and you repeatedly called out the wrong name.  I did not realize you had my coffee ready b/c you were not calling out my name.   Save that look for them, please.

This is all very funny.  I do have pretty good in-laws.  Most of them are wonderful.  I guess if I would have married a girl, my in-laws would have been better... ??  :)

Leslie - I agree.  All hardwood.  Very pretty!

  • Leslie, i love the floors too! And like the other girls i agree, do all hardwood :)

    brianna- i LOVE that gift :) i bet she'll love it! :)

I know.  That's something they tell you when you have a kid.  It's like "Oh congrats, it's a baby girl! By the way, Santa's not real and that's your job now."

Build you up to knock you down, I tell ya.

  • Leslie - love the wood that you picked out!

I would probably have to see a sample of the wood in that area to know if it would be better, but I do really like it!

  • Leslie I would go with the wood as well.

    Yea for the vacation Jaymi!

I got our logo and stuff from my friend that's a graphic design artist! I'm super excited and she did an amazing job!

Is is sad that today I'm looking forward to the hot chocolate I have for a treat today? This will be the highlight of my day at work!

  • Thanks girls. I am glad the consensus is that the dark wood is good. That was my only concern. I LOVE dark wood floors but I was afraid I was an outlier and they wouldn't sell well.

I should mention that if we leave that area tile, we will not be keeping the tile that is currently there. We have a tile fireplace in the same room and the tile is blah, so it will be ripped out when we re-do the floors.

I had to put the fear of God into DH today. He woke up this morning and told me he had an overwhelming urge to rip out the carpet today. I told him I had book club and he'd better not. But Saturday at 1:01p (or probably 2:01p knowing us chatty cathy's) - it's fair game. Haha!

I actually vote for the tile in the entry.   You (or I, at least...haha) don't want to have to worry about coming/going in the rain and/or with wet feet and constantly having to keep it dry.   If a rug gets moist and sits on the wood, etc etc.

Wood+Water = No Bueno.  I believe my parents had this problem and ended up cutting part of their wood out to put tile there.

ETA:  I LOVE dark wood. So I say great choice. :)

  • Good Morning!

Lots of great things going on today for everyone -- except for finding out that Santa isn't real.

My Mom gets into town today! So excited!!! I have two gallons of paint, rollers, and a couple yards of fabric - all just awaiting her arrival. I tend to be very indecisive, so I'm grateful she's coming to help get things around the house DONE.

  • Kate, I love those weekends - my mom comes to help sometimes too.  It's just so nice to have someone to help motivate you to get the last bit of projects finished.

Oh, and I thought of two AWs, with all this house talk... My new pantry is really close to being complete!  Everything is stained, and two of the six doors are hung.  I was an idiot and only ordered half the needed hinges, so we have to wait a few more days to get the rest.  It's turning out to look reallllllly close to the original cabinetry, so I'm super excited about that.  The only issue is the handles - I cannot find anything even remotely similar (because mine are very old fashioned) and I haven't found any I like better to replace them all.  So, my pantry just won't have any handles for a while (or, ever, probably).

AW #2:  James bought paint for the kitchen!  It's been in a sad state of chaos since April, when we finished the floors, because I couldn't pick a color.  I finally googled Sherwin Williams' most popular beiges, and chose from those.  Hopefully I like them!  In all of my vacation time over the next couple of months I am going to paint the walls and ceiling.  I can't wait to have the kitchen completely back to normal!

Haha, no! I promise I won't make you rip out flooring. I may have you guys give me in person opinions on the tile vs wood debate though. :)
