Name change procrastinators ..

Ok so it is almost a year. How many of you still have to change your name on some accounts? I finally am getting around to changing all my rewards accounts for airlines, hotels, etc. I am sure there are a few straglers as i just started to agressively do this a month ago. Also just got my personal passport changed - it should be in the mail back to me. The work passport and visas are finally done as of a month ago. I know i am not the only one dragging my feet on some of this stuff. I am sure i will find other things that need to be changed and some I may not change such as the title to my car and house.

Re: Name change procrastinators ..

  • I *think* the only thing I have left to change is my passport. Maybe a few small things here or there, but anything major is changed and done.

  • I did all of my changes right away.  Once I started on it, it was easy to finish everything up.  I think the only thing I have lingering is one airline rewards account, but they cna only do it via snail mail and I don't fly with them that often.

  • everything is done minus my passport, my credit card (its a PITA to change), my guidance counselor license (I don't feel like paying for it right now) and I think that's it.....

  • I think all I've got left is the title to my car, and that I don't think I'll change either.

It might depend on the state? I know in Pennsylvania it didn't automatically change on your title. My car was still being financed at the time so I had to get my title "released" from the bank and stuff which made it take longer.

The only thing left for me is my dermatologists office. For some reason they refuse to change my last name even though I have an update card for my license that the TSA and everyone else accepts just fine. They say they won't change it until it's on my actual license which won't be for like 4 years. I'm not sure what's up with that but its annoying because when I get prescriptions it's in my maiden name and then the pharmacy has to change it because my insurance is in my married name. grrr.

I'm sure some loyalty cards and such are in my maiden name still but I'm not really worried about it. If I notice something I just ask whoever I'm talking to to change it.

  • I'm not bothering to change my passport until it expires.  I don't see the point in going through all that paperwork when I can just travel on my maiden name.

I'm not changing my name in Finland, either.  Matt says if we ever move there (very unlikely) he'll take my last name.

I haven't change my credit cards either.  I guess I'll do that soon.  The only thing I've changed is my drivers' license, SIN card and .... Matt and I opened a joint account.  I have to wait until I receive the remainder of my Japanese pension tax refund before I can change my other bank account.  Shouldn't be long now though.   Once that happens, I'll change my credit cards and bills too.  Everything attached to banking right now is kind of on hold until we get that money.

I feel that way too but I have both a work (official govt passport) and a personal one. I take my personal on work travel as a backup or for a potentail hostage situation so I am not associated as a federal employee. So I decided to spend the money to change it plus I put our honeymoon tickets to Costa Rica in my new name.

The house and car are not financed so no need to spend money to change those. I will just sign my maiden name at the time we sell them. DH is on the will so he will inherit them if something happens to me.

I waited on the rewards cards but traveling for work they used my married name and some would not give me credit without changing the reward card name. So that is what started this second round of name changes.

  • I still haven't changed my name with the cc companies or even my own bank. My car is financed (my sister is co-signer) and we didn't want to spend the money to have both of our names changed on it (she got divorced last year). So when it's paid off, we will just drop her name off of the title and change my name and add my husband.
  • I have a CD that still has my maiden on it, but all other accounts have been changed. Since I'm planning on removing the CD from the bank it's in now and changing it to the one we use, I figure it doesn't matter - it comes due this month. I get junk mail in my maiden, still.
  • hahaha...ummm ME. I JUST changed my name legally a month ago when we had to do the passport thing. I decided it was about time so i went to the DMV and social security office. I havent changed it anywhere else however....i need to get started with that :/
