For the last couple months a physician has been pursuing me for a developing nursing position in IT. This is a nursing leadership position where I would be helping institute change in our new computer system. I would be putting a nurses point of view on changes to the computer system and system changes to the hospital I work at. I signed the job posting Tuesday, got a call yesterday and interviewed for it today. This position sounds promising and the interview went really well. If I am offered the position it will be a tough decision to leave bedside nursing. This job would offer a huge advancement in my career. I would love any T&P in guiding me to the right decision in my career. Gah! It's so hard!
Re: Job Vibes Please!
I've done a lot of that kind of work (though clearly not for nursing) and I've personally found it really interesting and rewarding. It's fun to take what you're an expert at and apply it in a new way. Plus, you'll get to learn a little about Project Management and how coding and development works.
I say go for it - you can always go back to more clinical care if you want, right? If you like the more business/management side of nursing there are opportunities there right? I feel like an RN is the Director of Operations of DH's entire practice, for example.
GL!!!!
I agree with the other ladies - also, even if you decide to go back to clinical nursing, you would be able to put this new experience on your resume, which is always a good thing.
Good Luck!!!
Sounds like a great opportunity, T&P's for you that you make the best decision for you and your career. You must be pretty awesome if you were what the MD wanted for this position.
If you didn't want to leave bedside nursing, would it be possible that you could still pick up a few shifts here and there to keep you doing some of that?
ETA: Are you still wanting to be a nurse practitioner (I think that's you)? Would this be something that would help you get to that point?
