DH and I recently spent a few days up at Gunflint Lodge for our second anniversary, and since I know there were some curious ladies on here before, I thought I'd give a little review.
We used a Crowd Cut coupon ($250 for $500 credit). It was a little hard to find an open date in the fall, since they were pretty booked for weekends. We ended up going Sun - Tues, which was okay, but required some time off of work. I would suggest checking availability before getting the coupon. However, once we were there, it was absolutely fantastic. We arrived in the evening and passed a wild wolf waiting to cross the road a few miles from our cabin. Our cabin was spacious and clean with a hottub for two, gas fireplace, stocked kitchen (not food, but plates, pans, etc), and extra pillows and blankets. We also had a grill out side with two nice chairs and another set of chairs and a swing right down on the shore that was just for us. We spent hours down there taking pictures of birds and Canada (just on the other side of the lake) and reading.
The next day we had a great breakfast at the restaurant in the main lodge and spent some time feeding ducks on the shore. They're pretty tame and came up to within two feet of us. Then we went for an easy three hour hike to enjoy the woods. Halfway through we stopped at a lake that had a little dock and canoe that we could use. We had packed a little picnic lunch, so we had that while paddling around the small lake. That night we ate at the restaurant again (Canadian walleye and steak) and then played board games in our room. The next morning we were able to squeeze in an hour-long horse ride before heading back. The horses were well cared for and very well behaved. The scenery was amazing, as the fall colors were just slightly past their peek.
All in all, I would highly recommend Gunflint Lodge, but it was a little on the pricier side, so keep an eye out for crowdcut deals.
Re: Gunflint Lodge
Sounds amazing. Confirms all of the good things I've heard about the Gunflint Lodge. We reeeaaaalllly want to go this winter and do some dog-sledding and snowshoeing. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for a winter use coupon for them :-)
