Best type of lightbulbs?

Im looking for the most economical light bulbs on the market- that still actually give light. I've bought some of the more expensive type- but the light was so white and dim that it didn't give me enough light at night. Anyone tried something with great success?

Sorry, i'm not really sure what you mean... Maybe a little more information will help.
What type of lightbulbs did you use? What wattage? What are your light sources (overhead, floor lamps, task lights)? What are you lighting (work areas, reading, ambient, etc.)?
