Re: what's in your flower bed right now?

  • We have a sprinkler system although to save water it hasn't been on as much so we have a lot of dead stuff that needs to be ripped out.

Our firecracker bushes have survived the drought well, as have our holly bushes (which are also strategically placed to prevent any sneaking out (or in) in the future... you might think of that or pyrocanthia around some windows, hehe.

We have crepe myrtle in the backyard that is thriving well, as is our Wisteria (but it is HIGH maintenance).

  • Knockout Roses, miniature bottle brush (currently flowering) and vinca.  All have done well and we have the sprinklers on 3 times a week.
  • Weeds.  Lots of weeds.  Seems to be the only thing I am capable of keeping alive right now.  Needless to say, my yard looks *awesome.*

  • Knockout roses, Bougainvilla, Oleanders, and Hibiscus. The Hibiscus I water more often. All of my Azaleas have died :( We have 1 crepe myrtle tree that has tolerated the heat and the cold very well.

  • There was an armadillo burrowing in my flower bed last week but that's probably not what you're looking for. Right now all we have are some bushes, no flowers. Knockout roses in the back but they don't look very good. Everything else died so we dug it up. I'm not planting anything new for a while, my water bill is high enough.

  • Somehow my Hydrangeas made it through the heat as did most of my rose bushes. I still have a few Gebera Daisies but they look BAD. Everything else is dead.

    This exactly.

Planning a trip to Plants for All Seasons this weekend

  • Lots and lots of succulents, but this is a patio/container garden. Townhouse dweller here. The only thing I have planted in my tiny patch of dirt/grass is a Texas sage. (in bloom, is like perfume! clap clap clap clap!) Geeked

  • Our knock-out roses and boxwoods did just fine - and we haven't watered much at all. Some of the other stuff is totally dead though. :( I'd like to totally re-do the front beds this fall, but DH wants to wait until spring. blegh
