Going Away Party
My husband will be leaving for boot camp the beginning of January. I am looking to throw him a family party just to say bye and remind him that we're all supporting him in his decision.
Any ideas? We've got a blank slate right now and plenty of time for lots of DIY.

I wouldn't do the going away party the week before he leaves. Maybe two to three weeks before. The week of is going to be stressful for him (he'll have a lot of unknowns and what if's to contend with).
Why don't you do a pot luck? If people look for suggestions on what to bring you can tell them to bring one of your husband's favorite foods. I think the important thing isn't the decorations or the favors but more the people who attend.
