I just bought the 1979 Reader's Digest "Complete Guide to Needlework". Wow, have I learned a lot! It's such a shame so much has been lost with the invention of technology. If you see it at a thrift store for $2.99 like I did, buy it!

Re: Rave...
It's listed starting from $.01 (plus shipping) on Amazon

Might need to check this out!
Oh my gosh, buy it! Seriously, there's none like it that I've seen. My cover looks like this http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-Needlework-Readers-Digest/dp/B000NLBPE6/ref=pd_sim_b2 , but it has to be the same book.
I should give an equal rave to The Complete Guide to Sewing. It was my mom's that she got as a Christmas present in 1978 from her mom. I used it to teach myself how to sew a lot of things through the years. http://www.amazon.com/Readers-Digest-Complete-Guide-Sewing/dp/0895770261/ref=pd_sim_b1
There's certainly some books that go out of date, but if you're a sewer, knitter, crocheter, etc, I guarantee you'll learn something from these books.
