what would you send to a person who just had a stroke?

Her speech is affected so I'm not going to call her. I was going to send her a letter but I also wanted to send her a care package. Since I got married she has sent me little things here and there that are so thoughtful ~ definately according to what's going on in my life at the time [cute school things when I quite my job to become a teacher, stuff about Noah's name when we found out it was a boy and decided on the name - see, thoughtful!!]. What would you send to her? She can't really move her left side and she is left handed. She is at home now with good care so she's not in the hospital anymore.

Re: what would you send to a person who just had a stroke?

  • is she strong in a particular faith? an encouraging book with short excerpts of quotes about strength during a hard time might be helpful.  if she is technologically savvy and it is in the budget, something she can use to type messages that is portable could make a big difference. since she cannot speak or write with her regular hand, a tablet with touch screen letters could be a Godsend for her.  check first that she has accurate dexterity in her right hand of course.  Joel's aunt had a stroke in recent months and being able to type and communicate electronically has helped her get through the depression that commonly accompanies strokes.  i am sorry for your friend!

  • Thanks! These are really good ideas!
  • I'd send over a meal and a nice card. Maybe Honey Baked Ham. If she still has to go in frequently for day visits at TIRR or somewhere else, then I'd send a parking pass or gas card. All those visits add up. People need lots and lots of love after this. She is lucky you are thinking about her so send her something to show that. Agree with PP about an encouraging book with motivational quotes.

if this is possible and if she is christian i recently bought a panel at hobby lobby that has Bible verses and the words from Amazing Grace to create a lap throw for a relative needing comfort.
