VENT and question

So I just got back from my doctor's appointment I set up to discuss birth control options. I have always been on some form of microgestin and have been on Junel FE for a year and have NO libido (my poor DH!-). I know that most pills cause this, but I don't want to stop taking the pill all together because it really helps regular my periods (I had horrible heavy periods with lots of cramping) and it helps my migraines drastically. No issues with Junel except for the sex drive issue, so I've been pretty lucky.

The nurse that I spoke to was nice but didn't know much. She said that the doctor would answer all my questions and go over the different options (including supplements)... not true. The doctor spent no more than 2 minutes with me, literally. She came in with a prescription already written for a new form of pill. I tried explaining my issues and she said "Well, usually it's not the pill, it's because the fireworks have gone away the longer you are into the relationship" (seriously, you're telling me that pills don't affect libido?!) and she tried to rush me out and hand me the new px.  I tried to slow her down and explain that I really liked the Junel and was worried about completely switching to a new form because I didn't get the other bad side effects, so she said "in that case, lets have you try Reclipsen" and then wrote a new px, opened the door and left. SERIOUSLY?!

I didn't want to chase this woman down the hall, but now I am regretting not being more assertive. I have no idea about other options that don't affect libido as much, nor did I find out anything about natural supplements.

Has anyone taken Reclipsen (I've never heard of it) or a natural supplement to boost libido while on bc?  TIA!

Re: VENT and question

  • Ok.  I would probably find a new doctor.  Is there a different doctor in the same practice you could go see?

  • I would definitely find a new doctor.  That's completely ridiculous that she wouldn't even listen to your concerns and discuss them with you.
  • I'm living in Indiana right now; my regular doctor is in Michigan. So I went to Planned Parenthood. I knew I shouldn't have expected much, but I've been there 2 other times and had no problems.
  • I would definitely find a new doctor. If you plan on staying in Indiana for a while, it wouldn't hurt to find a doc that's closer to where you are, especially if you have to be seen for an emergency. I started BC when I was 16 for the same reasons as you. Heavy AF, major cramping, and I was very irregular. I stopped BC because I literally could not handle not having a sex drive. Once I went off it, it was like a switch flipped. I highly suggest you find an OB/GYN where you live. Then you can talk about options.
  • I have no thoughts on supplements to help with your sex drive, but you definately need to find yourself another doctor.
